First, what warning lights should come on when turning the key on before starting the engine. I'm thinking oil and alt? 1974 Maverick. Second, I'm trying to install the lower plastic dash on a 74 maverick. The three bolts/screws that are used to attach the glove box to the hinge. It has been so long that I can't remember. Are these 1/4 inch heads (no screw driver slots) with a very coarse screw thread as opposed to a machined thread? Seems a bit weird but can't find any other screws that make sense. The 1/4 inch heads have very little bite against the hinge! Can't really see the thread pattern in the glove box "threads".
yes the oil and alt lights should come on with the key on and engine off. i have no idea about the dash screws
If you are talking about the Glove Box door, you are correct in that the 3 fasteners are 1/4" hex head sheet metal type threads (very coarse) that are 1/2" long and hinge is attached to the door. the 3 glove box door hinge fasteners are black plated, 5/16" hex head with 8-32 threads that are 1/2" long and has built in washer which is also 1/2" in diameter attaches the hinge to the lower dash metal brace. the cardboard glove box itself has those stapled metal tab/nuts which uses those phillips head screws with flanged washer and coarse threads that are 1/2" long. this fastener is one piece, where as the above mentioned machined screw uses separate washer (2 piece). let me know if you need pictures of the 3 fasteners........ The warning lights come on when the key is in the "crank" position...not the "on" position like on newer cars.
Dyent, thanks for the response. I was referring to the glove box door. The small 1/4 hex head bolts don't seem to want to go in very well. They also look like the same bolts that attach the instrument bezel cover to the instrument cluster. I have the glove box fasteners sorted out. Rthomas, my alt light is on when the key is in the on position?
