Thanks, I got my bumpers and boomerangs from Jeff..... I will contact him about it..... The lip is where the sheet metal came in..... I used .o4o sheet metal, clamped it down on a drill press table. Use a 2" hole saw to cut the gauge hole, then used a 2.5" hole saw to cut the outer diameter making the ring..... Then welded that to the end of the tubing and ground the weld off for the smooth look that would not inter fear with the gauge clamping.....
Once again more wiring progress..... The under dash area on the driver side is done, as long as everything works anyways..... I also got the radio in..... The instrument cluster is assembled but I could not find the connector I had for the tach and shift light..... I set the cluster in the dash just to see what it's looking like..... I will grab another connector this week..... Here is the under dash wiring..... Here is what the dash looks like with the cluster set in place.....
Frank, Grab some pipe insulation or roll bar padding and have a cover with Velcro seams made from vinyl to match your seats. Once you install the padding and cover, it'll hide the wires and bring everything up to the same level of craftsmanship as the rest of the car. Have the bars inspected before installing everything though or you're going to have to remove every cover and deal with an upset inspector for making them wait. Once that happens EVERYTHING that they can find will be found and you might not be allowed to race! Trust me on this, I found out the hard way (and it wasn't even my car!). -Scott H.
This will not make the die hard, tried and true Ford blue guys overly happy(by the way I have always been one myself, but times change)..... I am not really ready for this right now, but a deal came up and I could not let it go..... It arrived yesterday at work..... It is an LS 5.3 HO Crate Engine..... The deluxe 327 kit with carb intake, coils, coil brackets, coil harnesses, ignition wires and plugs..... It will be a while before I am ready to use this, but it was far to god of a deal to pass up and I have wanted to do a turbo LS for a while..... Here's a few more pic's.....
Seriously? I followed along with your build on the blue car and was disappointed that you changed up and didn't finish that beautiful car. And now I've followed this whole build to find out near the end that your going to put a Chevy motor in it. You should really disclose this sort of thing in the beginning of the thread.
You know, I've been a Ford since you were a toddler..............but my first race car was an SS/IA Camaro..........I loved that car and unlike my many Ford's it required very little maintenance. Now that I've said that I still like Fords but have come to the realization that you can do whatever you want because it's your car, your money and your time. Although my health isn't great if I had the chance to put together a last car, kind of "stealth" street/strip Maverick/Comet and wanted to make 600/700hp.............I would take the path you and Frank have............I love your build and will certainly continue watching and look forward to seeing you put it in with the stock towers and suspension. Keep up the great work!!!!!...........IMHO
I don't think Frank is saying that he is sticking a 5.3 Government Motor in his Maverick. He is just saying that he now has a 5.3 for another yet future project. Right?
obviously he's going to ditch the 5.3 when a 6.0LS comes up for the maverick...then the 5.3 for a different car. if i didn't have towers i would have went this way as well..excited to see it put in!
I knew this was going to be a big controversy..... Sorry you feel this way, but I knew some people wouldn't be happy here..... It didn't start out going this way but things happen..... I work with these motors all the time at work and they make incredible power and are very durable..... Thanks..... I have also have Chevy's in the past and like all brands in general, a nice car is a nice car and a good running car is a good running car no matter the brand..... Let me clarify, this 5.3 will be going in this Comet..... Thanks.....
I follow this thread because I appreciate the craftsmanship and attention to detail. The personal touches are obvious throughout the build, and the motor choice is simply one more. Keep up the great work Frank, and thanks for taking the time to document and share.
I don't know why people get so butt hurt over a chevy in a ford. If ford had a late model engine worth a damn people would probably use them as much as the Ls. I have a 5.3 sitting in my garage, the next time I have my engine out I'm going to see if it fits between the towers. It'll be awesome to see what kind of times it runs with a turbo Ls.
I have never liked a Chevy motor in a ford and I never will. It's just me, I think I ruins the whole car. I have always had the opinion that you should power your vehicle with an engine made by the same manufacturer. And if you don't think ford has any late model engines that are worth a damn you should open your eyes the next time you're at the track. My '12 mustang runs 12.0 in the quarter with only tires and suspension mods and completely stock engine, no tune. My buddy's '11 mustang has a Kenne Bell supercharger, tire, tune and no suspension mods and his car runs 9.87 and it's his daily driver!

As far as I am concerned to each there own, like it or not it's my car/money and I am building it the way I want no matter what anybody says..... I considered a Mod motor, my biggest problem with them is the ridiculously large size of them..... They barely leave room for anything else in the engine compartment.....
