Me personally im a big ford fan and like the 302/5.0 set up in our cars for a V8 and im not really big on chevy but i do like the ls engines and power they put out, they seem reliable too IMO. Its like the roadkill show(if anybody watches it) they built a bel air with a hemi, at first i hady thoughts about it but when it finally ran and drove i thought it was pretty cool. As for the build i love the amazing things you do to the car and cant wait to see it running with the 5.3 in it. Keep up the good work.
I should have excluded the coyote engines, I was referring late model engines affordable for most hot rodders (4.6, 5.4).
Finished the wiring inside except for the stuff involving the shifter(can't finish that until the shifter is in)..... After testing all the circuits successfully, I cleaned up and installed the package tray under the dash..... I also decided to add the chrome trim along the lower dash, I think it looks much better then without..... Then I started working on under hood wiring, for right now I am just modifying the stock front harness and adding what is necessary for now till I do the engine swap..... Not saying that putting a LS motor in a ford is cool but sayingbit is cutting edge and comparing it to Carroll Shelby is a big stretch. LS motors have been stuffed into everything imaginable. Dollar to horse power ratio is one of they most economical out there. The after market support is larger than any other manufactured based motor. To agree or disagree with messing with the pedigree of a particular brand is both hit and miss. Most of us in some way make the decisions on what we do to our cars is based on personal preference. Number matching Mavericks are not uncommon and there is no real great value in them.
Its a "To each his own " type thing... no more wrong than putting a Kawasaki engine in a pristine Vintage Harley Davidson.
This morning I finished pinning the plug for the front light/engine harness and got it in the car..... I installed the Autometer oil pressure/water temp sender in the motor and wired the engine(basically just the coil and senders)..... Then I wired in 3 relays(I for the horn, high beam and low beam headlights..... I went ahead and installed the radiator and the electric fan I decided to use..... All that is leaft for wiring now is a fan relay, a starter relay and getting the headlights in..... I went to the parts store and got oil, filter, trans fluid, fuel hose, fuel filter, water wetter, trans cooler hose and some clamps(just about everything I should need to start it next weekend, I hope anyways)..... Here's a few of the wiring and other progress in the front(remember most of this is just temporary till I do the front work with the LS/turbo swap).....
This week I removed the water pump, balancer, oil pan and pick-up from my new motor..... I have this all for sale elseware since this is a Ford based fourm..... All these will be replace with different components, plus I have decided to go EFI..... The motor missing some stuff now.....
This weekend I got the under hood wiring finished, ran some front brake lines and bled the brakes, hooked up the trans cooler lines, changed the oil, finish the fuel line, changed the fuel filter, add some gas and got it running again..... Here's a few pic's.....
If I had to do it over again I'd really consider an LS instead of my 347. A buddy of mine is putting a big turbo 2JZ in a late 60's nova SS (race car), Chevy purist are going to flip. Are you going to paint the engine compartment?
The engine compartment will get painted when I do the engine swap, I didn't bother to do it you because I will have to do a suspension swap and cut the towers.....
Today I took the front seats down to make a new set of seat mounts..... I originally set them up with a set of Maverick LDO seat tracks before I had them recovered and they fit perfectly(just the right height)..... After I got the seat reupholstered with new seat foams the were much firmer and when I test fitted them they I sat quite a bit higher..... Much closer to the top of the cage then I wanted, so I decided to make some no adjustable mounts and today was that time..... I really don't need the to be adjustable anyways, the new brackets make the seats 1.125 lower then with the LDO tracks(much better)..... I got the driver seat brackets made today and most of the pieces for the pass side are done(will finish the pass side up in the morning)..... Here are the new brackets mounted to the bottom of the driver seat..... and here is the seat bolted in the car.....
