Your Maverick looked good before. Didn't know your rust issues were this bad. Glad its getting taken care of now. This is going to look flawless once its done. I might need to borrow your painter when the time comes.
Cool!! My uncle has a 1969 Boss 302 that is that color. I painted a 1990 Mustang 5.0 LX coupe that color a few years back. always got tons of compliments on the color.
Looks good so far, are you planning on using satin or gloss black in the typical grabber paint panels? I've done body work both ways, epoxy primer before the body filler was applied and epoxy primer after the body work was done because I didn't have any at the time and couldn't afford to run right out in a buying frenzy to purchase more until after the monthly bills got paid. Both had the same results of not having to go back over it later. As long as the bodywork was covered with epoxy primer, it shouldn't be a problem which way it was done since your local area isn't exactly known for it's wet weather. -Scott H.
Gene, I'm about 3 weeks behind you on my 1971 Grabber. It's on a rotissarie now (See picture). Metal work is in progress and I may try the hood lip replacement like you. Also, I'm going Calyso Coral, but the body shop guy says the paint people can't find what I'm looking for. They have mixed something up that looks like what I can remember from the 1970's. Can you provide me info on a supplier who can match Calypso Coral. Can't wait and in debt. I had a 1970 grabber in high school and I am stuck between the 1970 decals and the 1971's. TBD. SCS (Steve)
Steve, I don't know much about paints myself but I texted my paint guy and here is his response verbatim regarding the calypso coral paint: Getting the paint from Sherwin Williams - Automotive Division. They can only make it in "dimension base" because the toners used to make it are only available for dimension. If they match it in their modern day basecoat using the new toners it is around $800 a gallon just for the basecoat.
Thanks, I'll never pay $800/gallon for any paint! I guess I'll see how mine turns out. It looks close. Fortunately I'll be getting my "frame" base coated first in "Calypso Coral". I'll have a chance to recover if it's way off. I have no idea what he got from the paint people.
We have some color!! Doors, underside of trunk lid and hood, valances...etc. This color is Calypso Coral.
