Is there a difference between early 70s mavericks & comets. I was looking at some more RRS suspension gear for my comet but in the catalog some parts fit comets from mid to late 60s but the same parts fit 70-77 mavericks

if it will fit a maverick it will fit a comet of the same era of course. as far as older stuff fitting newer it happens all the time no reason to make a new casting or tool for a car if they already have one laying around that will work.

when I go tot auto parts store for anything and cant find what Im looking for in a comet I switch to maverick and alot of times its there

body parts were the only real big difference but even those will interchange without modification with the exception of tail lights

Wrong application listings for Comets happen sometimes, and I think a lot of it stems from confusion about which body style Comet they are referencing and lack of awareness when the changes happened, going from a mid-size car to a compact. To further muddy the waters, Mavericks started in 1970, and Comets were still bigger, and didn't switch until 1971 .... meanwhile Torinos and Cyclones were on an odd two year run, too. If the guy listing the applications isn't a Ford specialist, it would be easy for them to get confused. I can't tell you how many times I have seen headers listed for 302/351W motors stating that they fit my Comet, but they won't fit a Maverick .... you learn to ignore those wrong listings after a while.

If anything, default to a Maverick listing .... a lot of folks don't seem to know later Comets at all.

My Maverick was a ruster the Comet GT was sound with front end damage I put the two together and made a sound Mavit ! It is the only one I have seen around!
