    Hey people,
Looking for info or thoughts on shoehorning a 427side oiler into a 72 ...happen to have motor sitting around
and it should have fast home.

It can be done if you eliminate the shock towers and coil springs and do a Mustang II or Rod and Custom front suspension kit or some other kit similar. It might also require some other modifications at the radiator area, not sure how deep/long the 427 side oilers are. I know that they are a big motor though. People have fit the Boss 429 motors in these cars just by moving the shocker towers way out back in the 70's. Do a search for Dyno Don's Maverick, I believe he had a Boss 429 in his. Nice motor to have laying around. Not that easy to come by those motors. Good luck with your project.

    Thanks

It can be done, it was in 1970. You have to widen the entire engine bay by moving the shock towers out on each side and modifying the lower control arm mounting points and moving the steering box into the frame rail or moving it to the outside of the frame with a right hand drive steering box. That's what the Pro Stock cars did in 1970.

Now it would just be easier to cut the towers completely out and go with an aftermarket suspension/steering system.

Here's a board member doing just this right now the old school way.

If I remember i read somewhere that they (don't recall who) basicly grafted the front end/engine bay from a 70 Mustang to make a 428 fit and look stock.

    Thanks for the shout outs
Thanks for the input... Rod and Custom will have a new customer
I have heard about no shock tower mods for FE but they all have ended with jacking the motor up to get at spark plugs
if my Pops 68KR is an example for crap plug access then tower mods become a necessary evil
If there are any pics out there showing no tower mods with an FE...
The motor sitting around was purchased 25-30yrs by my Pop for his 68 but he stayed with the 428.
Motor is a 68 low riser drilled for hydraulic lifters probably end up with Edelbrock roller and top end
Thanks again fellas. I am trying to change my Luddite ways and embrace the 20th century!

If you are already planning to do the R & C Mustang II conversion, you will need to cut the towers back to the inner fender wells anyway - you no longer will have springs and shocks up in there so there is no need for them :thumbs2:

Other headers will pray to them. Gonna bring the motor home in a month or so to start cataloging and getting ducks in a row. R&C it'll be a while but Christmas is coming just a question of when. Keep with the pics I wanna watch.

    Question
Why do so many 73-77 stay with the big bumpers? Is it brackets hard to come by? Why?
