Here we go again, I was one of the lucky ones (8 minute sellout) that got registered for this years Drag Week. Here is last years journey.... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=93984 I will be making a few minor changes to the car: heads, camshaft, carb, different nitrous kit, ignition box, and meth injection. I am also converting the car to small bumpers. Purchased some used Holley Systemax heads 165cc. Took them to my machinist, now they are good as new. Due to the 2.02 intake valves I had to check PTV clearance last night, all was good. I also installed a Bullet solid flat tapped camshaft, that will suit the car better. Here it is after getting it bolted on.
looking forward to the video coverage from hot rod on youtube. hopefully we'll be able to catch a glimpse of your car in action!
i bet you would pick up .3 on the track with doing a small bumper swap lol. wait till you see all that scrap metal under those bumpers...will be watching...hopefully nothing goes wrong this year, last year iirc you blew a head gasket.
We are just a little over 30 days away at this point. Time to quit slacking, and get with it. It's not even close to being ready I am going to try running methanol injection when the nitrous is spraying to help up the octane rating of the fuel, 87 octane will turn into 100+. Here is the nozzle plumbed into the back of the intake. Another upgrade this year is going to a return fuel system. It should reduce pump wear, and hopefully quiet it down some as well. The fuel system is all aeromotive, so I went with their recommendations on return line size (5/8). Removed the tank and welded a -10 bung in. Another issue I had last year was trying to launch the car. The carb wasn't helping me at all but I really wanted a 2 step. I bought a MSD digital 6 plus, it has a 2 step as well as a timing retard. I am mounting the methanol reservoir in the engine compartment so I decided to mount the ignition under the pass seat. The under-hood progress as of tonight. More to come........
With less than a week before we head to Tulsa for the start of Drag Week, I got to take it for a drive today. It seems to pull quite a bit harder, we will see what she does on the 7TH. Sorry to all of the big bumper fans, I swapped it over to small bumpers.
I am not going to make it to the track beforehand, that's not to say there won't be any testing this week. I may try to book some dyno time, still up in the air about that.
I got to do a little testing yesterday, one pass on the motor, and two on the bottle. Both nitrous passes we pretty clean with decent afr's (I did not pull a plug). Drove it to work today without issue. I have scheduled some dyno time for this Thursday, I can focus on tuning more that looking for red, and blue flashing lights I am not looking for a number just a safe tune.
Dyno is done, made some decent, safe power. 280hp/282tq on motor, 398hp/456tq on 150 shot at 6000 rpm. Here is a video
