The mirrors that were on the car when I got it(in the sig pic) were just some cheap aftermarket plastic ones if that what your talking about.....
Go figure! ... Ha! A lot of guys with really nice stock Mavs and Comets would love a passenger side mirror, and with a car as spectacular as what you started with, I thought we might be on to a real breakthrough. Nice work on that grille.
Is that extinguisher the type that is plumbed to remote nozzles? We had a Nascar Modified once that had a big Halon bottle with nozzles plumbed to under the hood, in the driver's compartment and back by the fuel cell
Yes..... There is 1 nozzle under hood, 1 in the trunk right behind the firewall and there will be one under the dash as soon as I plumb it this weekend..... This system uses FE-36 instead of Halon.....
Today I got the last 2 fire system lines made and installed in the interior..... I also changed the gate plate in my Turbo Action shifter to a glide so I don't have to mess with it later..... I bolted the shifter in for mock up purposes..... I ran the chute release cable through the rear firewall and layed it in place up the tunnel..... Here's the progress from today.....
Today I made the mount for the chute cable and welded it to the shifter..... I also made a tab for the fire system activator cable and welded it to the cage dash bar right beside the steering column and painted it..... I installed the fire system activation cable and the chute release cable through the interior..... I wired the neutral safety and line lock switches, then installed the shifter and hook everything up..... I installed the shifter cover and the lower heater duct..... After vacuuming everything out I install the rear seat, lets just say I hope I never have to take that damn seat out again..... Here it is after shifter and activation cables were installed..... Here it is with the rear seat in.....
thats looking incredible! i love the mix of stock and full race in your car. you need to have the chute on the back of the car with the I6 motor when you take it out. people are going to flip out trying to figure out what the car will do!
Thanks..... I like having a full interior rather then a gutted race car look, but some things are still needed for racing..... So this is the result.....
I got the seat in, shifter linkage hookup and the back up light wires hooked up..... Today the car moved under it's own power for the first time in a very long time..... The damn trans pan is leaking a little for some reason, I'll have to fix that next weekend, get the rear view/side mirror on, the lower seat latch covers trimmed/installed and get the car buffed(getting close to driving it again)..... I also need to get the stone guard painted so I can get the rest of the front end put together(I wish the damn door panels were done, hopefully soon)..... Here it is with the seats in it..... and here are a few I took of it sitting out in the sun.....
This morning I stripped, sanded, primed, sanded and painted the front stone guard..... After that I fixed my little trans pan leak and took the car for a ride around the block so to speak..... I thought I heard something last week move it around the parking lot, but let me tell you the rear end is making the most hideous noise I have ever heard out of one..... It's not a whine either, the closest thing I can compare it to is an old school playing card in the spokes of a bicycle..... I checked everything else and it is definitely the rear end, I took the drain plug out of the rear and leaft it draining the fluid..... I am going to take it apart in the morning and see what's up with it..... Here is the stone guard primed and then painted.....
Should have seen how rusty it looked before I painted over it..... Couldn't wait till tomorrow, I just had to know..... Went back to the shop this evening and took the center section out of the rear, and oddly enough it's the gear itself that is making the noise..... I could actually feel it in the mesh of the fears when rotating the pinion slowly by hand..... Why I didn't notice it when I set it up, who knows..... I am going to set up the 3.25 Gleason I have in the am, if it doesn't feel right on the bench I am not even going to put it in..... At that point I will just order another gear for it.....
