Well, I introduced myself, but decided to make a project thread. Just to be up front, this will not be moving along a blistering speed! Lol. I do hope to have it ready for paint by the time winter rolls around though. Here is what I started with: So far I have started taking stuff off. Am looking for stuff for a small bumper conversion. Now the interior was near perfect shape, but I wanted to see what was under the carpet. Have to say I'm very pleased! The only rust I need to repair is a small spot on the drivers door and the battery apron. The hood also had some rust, but was planning on swapping that. That's where it sits now. I want to clean up by the seam on the drivers side floor pan where the seam sealer was and then coat the floor. Should I use Por15, or is there another good product?
Thank you Dave. I can't believe how clean it is. Especially since it has been a northern car all it's life! Underneath the car is spotless as well. If it was up to me, I wouldn't even touch the body yet and I would do the drivetrain and suspension first. The wife on the other hand needs it to look pretty
Yes it is. I can't remember off the top of my head what dealer, but it says ford and John Deere! Lol Edit: I went and looked. It is Fuller land Inc. Hope, N. Dakota. Ford and John Deere!
I like it. Except for the big bumpers which can be changed to small ones, I think '74s are the last of the best Mavericks.
I hear ya Larry! I am not a fan of big bumpers! It was a shame to pull them off because they were in mint condition, but it had to be done! Lol.
That floor pan is in some nice shape! Even though the big bumpers aren't as 'sporty' looking as the smaller ones, someone somewhere will most likely be able to use them, if you ever want to get rid of them. They do look to be in excellent shape! Looking forward to the rest of your build!
Thanks Paul, I'm really looking forward to building this. I was really trying to like the big bumpers, but I see the small bumper cars and it is such a huge improvement! I will hold on to these until I acquire everything I need. Then I will sell these cheap to someone who can use them.
Bad picture, but the old 200 is out! Going to start cleaning up the engine bay and get that painted. Any tips on cleaning up the engine bay? Also, what would the 200 and 3 speed be worth? It only has 68k miles and runs great.
^^this picture is bringing back memories of MY project over 18 months ago. There's no turning back now!! Since you have already done the dirty work and removed the engine/trans from the car, I would say it has to be worth around $500, give or take (probably give) a hundred bucks or so. You should search the "Wanted" ads on the site here, I believe there were people looking for a good 200, and someone else looking for a 3spd. Good Luck!!
Thank you Paul for the input! I'll check around the site first before I try selling the engine. I'm hoping this won't turn into a on going project, but the more you take it apart it seems like just a little bit more and I could do this! Lol. I only have a small one stall garage for now, so a proper restoration will have to wait till we get a new place. Just want to get the body work straightened out and in primer then I can do engine and suspension for next summer.
