I have not been able to find one thing using the feature. It always gives me an error or can't find.. Done with it. This is upsetting because I used to use it all the time and now I find it useless and not fun. I mean, how can "Rat Rod" be "too short or too long of a word"?

words with less than four letters are excluded from the search feature. has something to do with how the database and forum search are organized and how much load the search will put on the server.
try searching with a wild card, i.e. *rat *rod - turns up a lot of results.

I changed a setting so 3 letter word searches are now possible.

Keep in mind that the search box is context sensitive and search options will vary (and may need adjusting) depending on where you are located in the forum. Here is a guide on searching the forums.

An enhanced forum search will be installed soon which will improve forum search results.

And the search at the top right of this/any page? What is that for?

It depends on where you are located in the forum and what options you choose. In the example below, only media (ie photo gallery) will be searched as the "search only media" option is checked. If it is not checked, then a general search will be performed.

Clicking on the search while in this tread will limit searched to all posts in this forum (ie: Site News, Feedback, Forum Suggestions and Help ). I you want to limit searches to just this thread, then click on "Search this thread only". If you want to do a general forum search, then de-select all options.
