If...they know what they are doing, that's a simple looking job. There is nothing wrong with using filler, if it's used correctly. What kind of paint do they use? I'd be asking more about the materials they use, at that price.
They use house of kolor or diamont. The guy said stripping with 80 grit then spray a rust removal then fine sand it. He also said it will take them 5 to 8 weeks. and the price is not firm 15% up or down but we all know nothing goes down
I can not stand body work! Dave says it's a easy fix but I see allot of work. Hopefully they really do use quality products, I don't see how though with the amount of work needed. The process you described seems lacking in details, unless that's EXACTLY what he intends lol
Hah...Rust...Thats not rust... Lucky you though...Now I see the reason for the low estimate...30 to 40 hrs of work there and it will be good to go. HOK or diamont should do just fine for paint.
Diamont R-M, we use to call that "run more", that's what the R-M stood for Hopefully there are a few more steps to their process. Do they have any work they are finishing that you can have a look at? Anything they've done that's been around for a bit? 4 grand is a lot of money to flush down the toilet, if it doesn't last. Some of the professional body man that we have around here, should be able to give you some better ideas, as to what's going on. I love body work, sometimes I think I should have done it as a trade, instead of what I did. House of color isn't what it's cracked up to be, you pay for a name...
I love sanding I attended to learn how to spray on this car. I originally wanted a quote to fix the rear quarters the guy misunderstood me and gave me the whole car. They have been around since 94' I have seen their finish projects and a lot of them are damn good. and your right 4k is a lot of money that's why I am being cautious about it. The guy said they photo everything and document each step. plus the man knew right away it was a maverick so he kinda earn a little trust there lol
That quote is by phone? That alone makes me question the entire thing. Bottom line is to do your car as needed a shop will spend a minimum of $1500 on paint and materials. Most likely more, but that is a baseline. That only leaves $2500 for all that labor? I highly doubt that. What is the shops labor rate per hour? Is the car coming completely apart? All body panels removed and fixed properly? That takes many, and I mean many man hours. Easy 100 hours plus. Good luck. Glenn
I stripped every single bit of paint from my 69.5 and found bondo that was actually used by Ford that was still intact - now, on the other hand, I also found more bondo work that was applied over the years due to a front end hit and also a left rear side swipe and even that was also intact
quote was in person he stopped at the shop where I was getting the wiring done. I just called for clarification of the quote. His hourly rate is $40. from what we discussed the fender, hood, trim, bumpers, lights and trunk lid is coming off. I am already planning for the 4000 to go up. I never worked with a body shop so do I hold them responsible for any extra cost is he gives me a 4000 written quote? Also can I penalized him if he goes over the 8 week deadline he set?

I would take a look at the car before its ready to be painted...at the half way point. Then you can make a call on whether you like the bodywork or you want another round of block sanding, tightening gaps, welding up holes etc. some water on the body will mimick clearcoat so you can see how the bodywork is really going to come out. Make sure they do all jambs and possibly the engine compartment. Oh..and invest in a good clear..even pay extra for an extra coat or two..that will give you enough material to color sand and buff for years to come.
