Been so long, I can't remember what goes here.

Two holes just inboard from the throttle cable.
My '70 doesn't have these - this is on my '72 - see the picture.

The top one is a rubber plug that's holds the firewall insulation in place, I dunno what the lower one is for, mine just has a dimple... Maybe someone drilled it to run connections for gauges???

That picture helps a lot ............. :tiphat:

Ford has the dimple there, might indicate a location for a hole if needed for something optional. A/C wiring maybe? Anyway, I am looking at that lower hole to run my mechanical gauge lines through. Since I don't have A/C or anything else I can think of that is missing at that spot, I think it will be a perfect spot.

    THANKS!

    An yer welcome... :)

My Comet has A/C, all but one connection are from firewall connector... There is one included with the vacuum hoses that operate heater control valve(upper left of pict)...

Isn't your firewall stamped differently?? There appears to be a crease that forms a V and meets at upper left of the holes, mine doesn't seem to have that...

My car just has a dimple there too. Non A/C.

There is a shadow from the lighting, made by that copper oil line in the far left of the picture. I was using a flashlight to get the picture. Is that V you see, from that shadow?

Your firewall is different for the A/C connections - and it has the heater core in a different location.

It's not the dimple for the floor shift (automatic) wiring harness. That hole is where the blue arrow points.

Thank you Paul, that picture helps too. :tiphat:

I was thinking over coffee this morning, I bet sometime in the life of this car, a hand choke was added. That was a real common thing to do "back in the day" and the location is perfect for putting it in, by the drivers right leg.

Anyway, since it isn't needed for anything factory, it will make a great spot for the mechanical gauge hard lines. :D

Ahhh said the blind man, I see that(now)... Arrangement for A/C heater core and blower motor are very different than non A/C...

My '71 has the hole for floor shifter wiring Greg pictured...

Here's a pic of my '72 when it was bone-stock after the engine was pulled. I can't tell from my own pic and my memory fails me, but it was there from the factory... 100_0100s.jpg

They use a Grabber specific interior and engine compartment harness. It adds one wire which runs through the firewall plug to power the lights.

I recently converted a NOS non Grabber engine harness to a Grabber harness by grafting in the wire from my old Grabber harness.

    Great picture Russ, :thumbs2:
at least we know Ford did put something there on some cars .............. :)

I used a step drill to open it up a bit so the temperature probe would go through ............... need to get the right grommet yet but it is now the pathway through the firewall for my mechanical gauges.

I went out to take a look at my car and I noticed that the holes on my firewall are a lot larger compared to the rest of yours. I was also about to ask what they were for. Any idea on where to find a grommet that fits them?I tried the floor plugs put they were too small.
