I've put this off for a bit, but I started mini tubing today, I figure if I don't do it now, I'll regret it later...
This is one thing that I regret I didn't do to mine at the time. It will require some work on the back seat, but still ... should have done this.
I think we all regret it.. I was just too afraid to tackle it as I never did a mini tub before. Good choice on doing it Dave you will be happy. Hopefully having the seat sectioned down doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Also take lots of pics! If I ever find NOS Quarters for a deal I might attempt it then lol.
Lots of pictures on the minitub will be appreciated. Im planning on doing mine before the end of the summer. Im thinking of making a making a couple relief cuts and using a fender roller type tool to push the top part of the quarter out a little bit but need to do some cutting to get a good look at it. Did you take a sawzall to the top and a spot weld cutter to the bottom half?
After everything else I did to my back seat frame, sectioning it would have been easy enough, too. The other thing that bothered me is that the side panel would need to be radiused, and that looked like part of the tub would be exposed. I am going for a very factory-looking car (although, not accurate). Now that it looks really good, I don't want to start over .... I retrospect, I probably should have gone for it. Just didn't feel like I had the skills at the time. Doing more of this stuff over time give you the confidence to tackle new challenges.
So does everyone else! Nice way to get the job done upright, opposed to laying on your back - regardless of one's age or physical condition.
