custom autosound radio

    has anyone ever used a custom autosound radio, there is not a listing for one but there is for a comet, are they the same? want a stock type look am / fm mostly any ideas?

    I personally think they are overpriced for what you get. One can get an aftermarket radio with a lot more functions for a lot less money. You can always hide the radio somewhere else in the car and use the remote control to operate it.

    My dad has one in his cougar and I have one in my maverick - both have functional issues. The buttons, after a few months, start to do things that they were not designed to do. An example would be you try to turn the volume down and it goes up or possible changes the station you're listening too. Stuff like that. His car is completely restored and garaged so I know it can't be a weather issue or water getting in with his anyway. That's just my 2 cents but who knows, the one you could get may work.

    Craig,

    Does anyone to your knowledge refurbish the old Philco AM/FM radio's? I would love to have one of those if I could get some decent output out of it. A long time ago I scored a couple from the boneyard, but could not get any decent volume out of either.

    As posted....lots of places can restore a radio....as well as totally "restomod" it. There is a vendor at the Carlisle All Ford Nationals that does amazing things with old radios...but it is not cheap.

    I have the same problem as Craig - and, on very hot days, the display disappears.

    I left the factory AM in place and installed an amp with speakers in the rear package tray. I have an auxillary cable that runs up and under the dash where a phone/mp3 player can be plugged in. My ipod has a built in FM tuner, so that is my radio.

    I have/had two CAS radios. One in my '66 Nova and one in my '65 Mustang. Both were/are not good. Knobs fall off, displays died, etc. I'll not buy another one.

    Mine came with the car. On hot days, or when running the heater on a cold day, the display disappears. :rant2:
