Good news - they are being repopped now. Here is a link - http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/reproduction-boomerangs-quarter-window-trim.94810/
The last I saw/read.....he quit making them because the quality wasn't that good. Best to get an original set and have them rechromed.
I sent Jeff (jeffsfordpieces of ebay) an email last night after seeing this thread, here is his reply: "Brian, I am no longer making these as it was to much trouble, to many air bubbles in the castings. I may have a rechromed used set on e-bay next week but they won't be pit free, thank you Jeff "
Oh....they were completed. I "had" a set. I sent them back. Too many air bubbles is an understatement. They were nice and shiney though. Wished they would have worked out.
Depends on what one's definition of "useable" is. Apparently...the market decided they were not...at least at that price. If they would have been $20, for example, I would have then considered them "useable". Those were being sold at a price I can get a set rechromed around here for.
Also depends on the company he used for chroming. Originals will almost always have pits/pinholes.... it would have just taken the company applying more copper to fill the pinholes prior to chroming. Again, you get what you pay for and as Craig stated, most Maverick owners don't want to spend any amount over $20 for anything new, amazing what they will spend on used parts though.
the chroming is what pitted the stock ones. my stock painted ones had no pits. I glass beaded and repainted them. as before, get a set of stock painted ones and have them chromed.
