So I have been slowly upgrading my Maverick as I could afford it. I have put an Autolite 4100 4 bbl carb 1.12 venturi (500-600) cfm. I have also installed weiand stealth intake manifold 8020, Doug Thorley headers, dual exhaust. I have a stock 302 in it right now, and I was wondering where to go from here. I was looking at the twisted wedge top engine kit for Ford 5.0L TFS K514-360350B. I also know I need to install disk brakes, what about fuel pumps, or other stuff I can add to my current setup? I really don't want a stall converter as this is also a daily driver
Although on that trick flow kit I will probably order the parts separately because it includes an intake manifold and I want to continue to use my weiand. Also I won't be using their manifold plenum or valve covers
Then you do not want the kit! You didn't say anything about your ignition. Are you running electronic? If not, upgrade that. I suggest Ford Duraspark. Then get a set of TFS 170 heads as your next addition.
I haven't done any upgrades on the ignition system, I did replace the distributer and wires, but just OEM replacement from Auto zone, nothing performance. For the ignition are you talking about just installing a performance distributer from MSD or Duraspark? Or should I be looking at ignition controllers or kits?
you can change your oil pump so you get more oil volume and swap your water pump out for an edelbrock circle track pump. they circulate TONS more water than a factory pump. put in an aluminum radiator to make sure things stay nice and cool you can get an electric fuel pump but youll likely need a pressure regulator if you dont want to go that route you can just get a fuel pump that has the canister on it so you have a secondary fuel filter. some people dont like them but I have never had a problem with them. if you ever have a problem you can twist the bottom of the canister off to check the filter or even replace it without taking the fuel pump off a double roller timing chain is a good upgrade and inexpensive you could get roller rockers lots and lots of good stuff out there
What is your ultimate goal for the car? From what you have written it appears you want more than just dependability. Stay away from spending money on things that are not broken or do not add to the performance of the vehicle if that is your goal. Are you running a roller or flat tappet cam? That determines which type distributor you need to select regardless of manufacturer. You can salvage a Duraspark II (Big Cap) harness from a salvage yard. If you must purchase a harness they are $150 from Summit. MSD and other manufacturers offer plug and play units.
I wouldn't recommend a high a HV pump on a stockish 302/5.0 with factory clearances... Mostly all it does is sap HP and bypass a portion of the oil back into the pan, not through the bearings... Having 70-80 psi is totally useless...
Marvin McAffe out of california builds many race engines & he says anything over 60 psi is not needed & only robs HP.
I had low oil pressure below 40psi and I switched to a new pump and got right around 60 on the highway the motor was sounding like it was out of oil at times especially when getting off the freeway with th enew oil pump I havent had that problem
Remember I'm talking about stock clearance engine here... You only need 60-65 psi if engine is spinning 6K rpm, 60psi with engine running at 3K RPM is totally unnecessary... If engine has a good oiling system(which Windsors do, Cleveland, 351M & 400 suck), 10-12 psi per 1000 rpm is all that's necessary... Normal for the stock 289/302 is 35-40 at 2500 rpm, and increase to around 65 psi nearing 6K rpm...
how many miles on the motor you have? you can't keep adding to the topend without adding to the bottomend... converter is a good performance bolt on.
Well when I bought the car the motor blew, I was 16 at the time and bought a new stock 302 GM engine, and hired a cheap garage to install it. They didn't reset the odometer though . So I would have to guess around 8,000 miles on the engine. Thank you for the great advice on here so far. I'm a little confused with the oil psi conversation. I was looking at a high volume standard pressure oil pump. I was looking at this pump. http://summitracing.com/parts/mel-m68hv Would this still be overkill? I was looking at taking out the standard belt fan and installing one of those fancy aluminum radiators with an electric fan built in, any ideas on this?
I'm lost!!!! You never answered my question as to what you want to accomplish with this build (Post #6). You say you had a General Motors (GM) 302 installed not a Ford 302? To my knowledge, GM does not build new nor remanufacture Ford engines. So, are we to assume you have a GM engine? The garage didn't reset the odometer. Resetting an odometer is illegal! As for the high volume oil pump being overkill, Krazy Comet said it will cost you HP. Is that what you want? In addition, with stock engine clearances they tend to twist stock oil pump rods. Perhaps your goal is big oil pressure numbers to impress your friends? Is that what you want? If so, do you have an oil pressure gauge? You are all over the place with this thread. We cannot answer your questions until you tell us what you want to accomplish with the build and whether or not you have a Ford engine or a GM engine!

My goal for this car is to have a reliable car I can drive around town and on the highway, but I want to add a nice little kick to the acceleration so I can take it to the local track as well.
