ofcourse......paint silver first. I would have never thought of that but it makes perfect sence. I'm going to give that a try when I'm ready to redo my grill. I think the GT silver had a little over spray or a soft tape line but 1/4" tape would work easier.
This is how I will be painting mine, but the only silver sections will be on the ends. Hopefully I can get (at least) the silver on this weekend. If the humidity is OK and the heat lamps are helping, maybe I can mask and do the grey also.
Rusty, I wouldn't rush to do two colors in a weekend .... shoot one and ignore it for a while. That first coat of paint will be harder and set better. I know there is a small rush of satisfaction in "getting a step done", but it will survive masking better if you take time.
That looks nice! I used a silver paint marker (looks like a pen) from A.C. Moore to do my uncle's '71 GT grille and the grille on my old '73 Comet. I also went over them two times. Both grilles turned out good.
I did mine I had to sand blasted all the way down and use DuPont Nissan etching primer and in a semi gloss black Nissan.turned out pretty good
