    yeah I have hit their old pictures a bunch....I enjoy looking at the "things" in the background as much as the primary picture.

    They used to draw huge crowds at WH.
    Very cool.

    Sizemores maverick ran a batten BOSS300 head ( 2 end pices and a center peice of another 351 c head).Car had run a best of 9.40 with a 4-5 speed tranny IIRC.

    Way back when that first photo was taken Sizemore didn't have the chopped up Boss 302 head. He was running a modified 300" head. My Dad ran a 1965 Falcon Sprint with a 300" six, Borg Warner four speed and a Dana rear in the same class, H/Modified Production. Sizemore was the "big dog" in H/MP when NHRA rolled into Dallas in 1972. During class eliminations, Dad first sent the "Mad Maverick" out of Dallas to the house with an 11.38 @ 119 mph (which was a leg up on the mph record). Round two came and he sent the "media favorite", Sizemore, home early with an 11.40 @ 119 mph to Sizemore's 11.36 @ 117 mph. Yeah....holeshot city! Finals of class eliminations found Dad paired with Glen Self's "Stormin' Six" Camaro. After an 11.41 @ 119 mph Dad won the class and the national mph record.

    I'll have to dig up some old pics of the Falcon and get them scanned. Sizemore was a decent engineer but his two ring pistons wouldn't hold up. They always died after the fifth run on the engine. Way too much leakage. Dad figured out how to run a three ring piston and that was usually the key to his much higher mph. He also used 1 7/8" headers where everyone said all you needed was 1 3/4" because "that's what Sizemore runs." Guess even the engineers learn something new. :)

    Great story. I love hearing about fast 300ci sixes. I have thought many times of doing one but I always talk myself out of it:rolleyes:

    There is complete story with pics of the car in the march 1971 car craft magazine, you can get it on ebay for about 10 bucks, I have it it's awsome!!! I was going to build car somewhat like that.. I have a super rare 1 of 15 SVO 300 six block brand new and a steel stroker crank....

    I believe he did not have the hybrid head on the maverick , he built the pinto gasser ,when he went to hybrid. He also used a 6 piece hybrid head furnace brazed .John Keck/LLoyd DeCell ran the 3 piece head on an altered , late 60's. I have a car craft article I'll upload .
