The hole in the firewall is huge. This is what Craig was referring to. It doesn't look like it will interfere, but I won't know for sure until I get the box mounted. Worst case is that the bottom of the firewall hole needs to be clearanced a little bit.
Interesting... This means you'll have to also relocate the firewall openings, or was your car not orig equipped with A/C? Oops, see that's already been answered... BTW I would add support for the lines so evaporator isn't stressed
My car came factory with AC, but I won't need to relocate the firewall opening. Remember, on the 73 up cars the evaporator lines go through a huge hole and had a massive foam seal. From how things are looking right now, even though the lines moved over an inch downward, the worst thing I may have to do is grind on the bottom of the hole a little bit.
OK gotcha, just realized my '72 is similar... For some reason I was thinking it had a smaller oval opening... BTW just hit me you have a black engine bay that's no doubt orig, must be a Dearborn build??
Actually, not an original black engine bay. Painted it black back in high school. My Comet was baby blue! My "less than professional" painting prep of "wipe it down and spray" technique showed my inexperience back then, lol.
The fuel injection is turning out AWESOME! I like the approach you're taking with the HVAC, too. Good Work, Rusty!!
Had a couple hours this evening to work in the shop. I finished up fabricating the fuel rail brackets. After drilling and tapping the rails, I used stainless steel 10-24 allen cap screws to attach the brackets to the rails. The brackets are made from 3/4" 12ga flat stock. I'm planning on using the intake bolts to secure the bottom of the brackets. Everything worked out great. I also drilled and tapped the drivers side rear coolant passage for the factory temperature sender.
Nope! I'm taking a break on the Comet for the winter. Our shop is PACKED and with the Comet on the rotisserie, I can't get to it. Instead I'm tinkering with my Bobcat wagon.
Looks like you have a great car to "begin" the process with ! Like the paint layout! When you do a bumper tuck like you're planning you'll lose 88 pounds if you ditch the metal "inserts". I did a bumper tuck on a 75 Comet years ago and it really made a difference in appearance. Your Comet looks really " solid" What is your Comet sitting on? Just curious. Cometized (Chip)
Thanks, Chip! The Comet was sitting on block stands made of 4x4s and plywood. Right now it is on the rotisserie buried in the shop. I'll be back at it this summer.
Noticed the brackets you made for your fuel rails .. Nice uniform sizes. Just thought I'd mention it. For guys like yourself that build from "scratch" .. I deal with various sizes of Aluminum Stock .. Square Tube , Round Tube , Flat Stock 2" & 1-3/4" & 3" & 4" all one eighth inch and one quarter inch thick of 6063 Aluminum Extrusions . I have bunches of drops and full lengths of materials if you were ever to need any sizes I've mention for your ongoing projects . I'am sure I could find something in Aluminum you might want. I've made things like "spacers" , Engine Mount Plates, and the like for my own personal car projects over the years and lots of small things . Lemmeno. Cometized (Chip) ( Fellow Comet owner)
