Okay so I installed a new starter solenoid a month ago but batteries dead :biglaugh:so when I pulled the audio, all the bose speakers, they put a crap ton of money into the audio... They never finished it, there were wires everywhere and most of them were cut up, no wonder why my car lost so much power, I took them all out and kept them cause of course free money but the only wires that are left is the one going to the trunk, the doors, etc. my question is I wanna upgrade my alternator, what will be needed if I do a alternator swap, I do know about the 1g to the 3g conversion, I may by new battery connectors but my other question is when I connected my starter solenoid, I found an extra wire that I have no idea was there so can anyone take a pic of there stock 302 v8 preferably 74 thanks

My dad is kinda iffy on me getting a higher amp alternator because most of them are chrome and that's why the price is $200+ and my dad says that the pulley is chrome to so when the rubber belt goes over it, it'll slip? True or false, my dad likes keeping cars stock and he owned a loooooot in his day and bought them cheap and fixed them up so yea but how much did you pay? Sorry to get off topic

I bought the black alternator back in '09, it cost $84 back then. They cost $107 now but they do go on sale from time to time. I never had a belt slipping problem from the chrome pulley. The aftermarket chrome thermostat housing is a different story...you need to sand the chrome off to keep the hose from popping off once pressure builds up. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-810304

Shhhh, don't tell that to my chrome thermostat housing 'cuz it's been on there for about 15 years without leaking.

Uh, no, I've had it off plenty of times over the years, just last summer as a matter of fact. Still looks like new. And this is the one with the o-ring that everyone says will leak at the manifold. Nope.

Is just the battery, I'm gonna get it jumpstarted tomorrow so I can drive and get a new one and I'm starting to have second thoughts, I heard 74 if you don't plug on your seat belt then it won't start but I took all that apart and no seatbelt in my car at the moment
