Took the mav to Lancaster speedway for a shake down it was spitting and sputtering like it was losing fuel the fastest time i ran was 925 71mph i know this car is high 7's low 8's .well i took it home took carb off looked it over found on the drivers side of carb there's a screw that limits the throttle from the back that was keeping the back butterflies open so I a justed it and put a 2" spacer it & i bet she'll run now total different animal !!!!

While that adjustment will cause low speed and/or light throttle issues, really should not make a difference at WOT... Sputtering/popping is more often a ignition related issue, weak spark, bad plugs etc...

Tell us more about your combo engine, trans, gear etc... I'm guessing it has at least a 3.80 gear and 3K stall as 9.25 is pretty good at only 71 MPH...

You can see where it used to touch the cam now it seems ok and i put the 2in spacer on too there's no stall converter i think the stock gears for the 6 cylinder its a beefed up c4

Without a converter it's gonna be tough to go in the 7's.

Or even more than a mid 8...

With a 2K stall & 3.00 peg leg rear, my Comet went 9.23@77.7...

My T-Bird and Marauder both ran 8.3 to 8.4 but were making 83/85 mph...
