OK my Maverick Family........ once again i have gotten a lead on a 4 speed transmission, these are the numbers found on it..
    RUG E1 021732
    C5AR 7006-D W2
I was told that the syncros in 1st and 2nd are bad so it will need to be rebuilt..... has anyone ever used or installed one of these behind a SB 302? What kind of ratio am i looking at? I just installed a LSD with 3.25 gears and i like it alot just with my current 3 speed my RPM's are alittle higher then what i am use to, i need another gear on the highway......

Any details on "fit and Fun Factor" would be great.......

    THANKS!!!!!!!

A RUG E1 decodes to a 1967 289 Mustang, wide ratio. All you need is a toploader bellhousing to bolt it up.

Your high gear RPMs will stay the same, since 4th gear of the 4 speed remains 1:1, the same as your 3 speed high gear.

You can find out more here about the transmission here:http://www.davidkeetoploaders.com

More gears means that they can offer a wider range of ratios. You usually get a lower first gear. If you want lower high gear RPMs, you need to look into an overdrive transmission.

If you want to drop your cruising RPM get a T5. You can pick them up reasonably and they make adapters to use them with your three speed bell housing.

If you have a 250 Six or 302 V8 the t5 bellhousing will fit your engine without an adapter.

Nope. Two different animals. The depth is different and the bearing retainer and bolt patteren hole is different. But they both will bolt up to a 250 Six and small block Ford engine block if you decide to go with a t5. Only option you have if you stay with the 4-speed is to buy a Gear Vendor or some other type of overdrive...or live with the 3.25 gear. I have no problem with a 3.25 with 205x15 tires my Falcon. I get 19.75 mpg at 3300 rpm with my setup, at 2300 I only get 16 mpg

If you have a manual three speed you can adapt a T5 to it. Only reason I mentioned it is you won't have to re-engineer the clutch linkage.

OK, i can live with the higher RPM's, but what are the must haves to make this connection work? My current set up is 3 speed manual in the floor, with 302, headers with power steering....

You'd need the correct shifter and the rest should go right together, your three speed is virtually the same trans with one less gear.

Agreed, '65-up bells for three & four speed have same pattern...

The benefit is the ratios in the 4 speed are closer together vs the 3 speed, thus allowing for quicker acceleration and requiring less torque to do so. David Kee's kits come with detailed instructions, the only specialized tools you need are fishing magnets that will slip into the detent shaft holes. Other than that a good hammer and large punches are all that's needed (for changing the front and rear roller bearings on the input and mainshaft. You will need a neat, clean work table too, to disassemble then reassemble the transmission. I believe Toploaderheaven's kits are on the same par as David Kee's (www.4speedtoploaders.com ) stuff, although I've never used them. I've done several transactions with David Kee, he's a topnotch friendly guy and you will have zero problems with him. Both companies have been around for at least a couple decades now. I looked at both sites, David's kits are a good less expensive than toploaderheaven's kits. ($40 less)
