    I was under the impression small things like hood hinges/latch, shock caps, shock tower braces, small brackets/braces were dipped in a vat filled with black paint mixed with leftover dark body paint. Once the color got too funky more black paint was added to the mix. This is why sometimes these parts had a little bit of green or red tint. Have you heard of such practice?

    Never heard of some parts being dipped in paint however slop primer or batch primer as it has been called over the years was used on undercarriage and was offten a mix of differnet colours like you mentioned. I belive now mustang judging rules are moving more towards having small brackets, drive shafts, hood hinges, shock cap, drums, rear leaf springs and shackles phosphate coated rather than painted phosphate and some chrome shops are starting to offer that service but you then have to come up with a method of protecting them from rusting, certainly more for trailered show cars but I still want my car to look as factory as I can which means paying attention to little details. I know with the mustang guys every part has been documented as to which finish it had so when restoring a part you simply look it up and copy that finish. I know I'll be using the pictures above when restoring my engine bay lots of details there.
