I am going to rebuild the t5 I bought. I have a few questions. The counter shaft looks to be not rebuildable. Is that correct. If I buy a shaft that has the same number on it is it the proper grear ratio. I will get a picture posted of the main gears later. I think it is the 4th gear that is bad.
the shaft is not rebuildable. 4th "gear" does not use any gears in a t5. it locks the input shaft to the output shaft to create a 1 to 1 ratio. it looks like second gear to me. you need to get the countershaft with same teeth counts. thegearbox.org is a great source for t5 parts.
Yes the 052 is the number for that cluster so you will need to find one with the same number, I know the 4cyl ones are 048
That's 3rd, it's the weal link in the pre '89 OEM T-5(busted one of those myself)... It's possible to upgrade to the stronger '90/later gear set but won't be cheap, cost me like $600 in parts 20+ years ago(that did include the rebuild kit with bearings, seals etc)...
Thanks, I believe I am going to just replace the gear. I bought this like it is I think they were a little harder than what I will be. Where do you sugest I look?
