I was hoping no one would notice that Im thinking of calling my car beauty and the beast since its so rough around the edges and the flat black paint and the beauty comes out in the powder coating
Once that new engine is in place.. the beast part will be quite obvious every time you start it up and drive it.
I hadnt thought of that but youre absolutely right I try to just keep paying on the motor even though Im scared of what its going to be like. I know Im going to have to have a HUGE spring on the gas pedal until I get used to it in order to even get the car to move Im going to have to STAND on the pedal just to get off idle speed
update: DART BLOCK came in and it looks incredible. main cps are HUGE everything about the block looks BEEFY 4 bolt main caps already notched for the stroker assembly to be installed. cant wait for more parts to come in
the last update was a long time ago so here we go the last post was telling you the dart block came in well now the crank pistons heads and block are all just hangin out waiting for everything else to come in another update since I blew the old motor in this car I have been just jonesing to drive it again BAD......Ive been so jacked up on driving this car again you guy prolly remember I considered that 351 from a truck well you guys talked me into bailing on it. well recently I picked up a 4 door for CHEAP and it had a good running original 302. so yeah I couldnt help myself. I ran to the machine shop and threw a pile of money at it. here in the next couple weeks itll be all spiffy inside and out waiting for its new home in my car until the new motor is done. once the new motor is done Ill drop this engine in my comet gt I decided to make this motor a fairly mild build around 350hp. 40 over a thumper cam a hyper master rebuild kit and my rediculous score of gt40 heads last night for $200 to top it all off, I also have a dual plane weiand intake for it. Ill use the edelbrock 600 cfm carb I have laying around for now. also bought a msd dizzy from ebay should be here any day now all thats left to get is a coil plug wires and headers
okay progress brought the car back home after a long visit to storage Ive been working on it alot the last few days the 302 block is back from the machine shop and I have all of the new internals to put in. I want to change the pistons since theyre just cast. I think its a good idea to upgrade them while its still apart. I didnt realize they were cast until I got everything home and started looking stuff over went ahead and ordered a new harmonic balancer also to make sure everything lines up as its supposed to the crank was still good so they just polished it so I didnt have to spend $200 for a new one got a valve job done on the gt40 heads with slightly larger valves and double springs I started painting the car yesterday but didnt quite get to finish it as I ran out of daylight. I put my burgundy bumpers on and Im not sure I like them I think Im going to go back to chrome bumpers. hooker headers should be here monday or tuesday the intake should be here monday as of right now I changed the drivers door for a better one and I changed the passenger door but took it back off after noticing it was jacked up at the front jam area found a cut in my wiring harness thanks to my buddy cutting out the rotten battery tray area and not noticing he hit the wiring harness. so we have to get that fixed back up (good thing I had a parts car with a perfect uncut harness) so right now both doors are off and both fenders since the wiring is all hidden under the fenders and I took the windshield out to clean the old silicone out that I used to seal it up for winter but ended up breaking it thankfully I had a replacement thats good enough for now. also bought a new light weight master cylinder got tires swapped on to my draglites for it today (we took the draglites off and wore them out on the comet gt while it was in storage) lots done in the last week but still TONS more to do. Im hoping to drive the car to the car show in placerville this year I had to tow it last year since the motor was out. Im prolly the only guy that has taken his car to a car show with no motor haha. pics on this thread tomorrow
okay so I posted on another thread this car did not make it to the placerville show but weve been working on it and got the new small motor in and running after beating our head on a wall trying to figure out what we did wrong or missed with the new motor. we ordered a cam that had a 351 firing order well we got a cam with a 302 firing order then we finally got the right firing order after changing the dizzy the fuel pump and recharging the battery thinking that was it and it fired up almost right away once it got fuel it ran okay with a little adjustment BUT I asked for a slow lopey (sp?) cam and at 600 rpms it sounds like its going 9000 miles an hour then it takes a few seconds to respond to the throttle on and off THEN since we have no experience with msd boxes we figured out after installing the new box and distributor that the two have to be programmed to each other in order to work AND on top of that it turns out the plug for the msd box to connect to the laptop is for an older setup and wont work on the laptop I have were going to try and figure out the cord we need or get an adapter if theres such a thing. I considered a sniffer for the air fuel that goes to the tail pipe but theyre super expensive and as if that wasnt enough we didnt measure exactly where the factory floor shifter goes on teh floor like retards and now the shifter is 1/4 to 1/2 inch off causing the shifter to not travel back to first gear since the rod is only so long
yes but ever SO SLOOOOWLY. the 1000hp motor still isnt done nor is it any closer to being done but at the same time it wouldnt do me any good because the chassis work isnt done nor is the trans work and I dont have the $$ for it if the motor was done so Im trying not to complain about that
okay update Ive been busy TRYING to get everything dialed in and upgraded I took the car for an alignment and they scratched the CRAP out of my powder coated tie rod ends then I was in sparks looking at another parts car but it turned out to be a rust bucket so I spent the money on a killer chassis engineering kit for my rearend its fully adjustable for street strip and a setting for a good combination of both. and when I finally get around to adding the chassis kit I find that the leaf spring that were in the car were super soft and had just about no resistance left in them and were sagging differently so I go full speed ahead and swap the springs from my other comet thinking those might be better. well they were stiffer but only after blazing through everything and pushing out the front bushing in the leaf spring and adding the aluminum roller I found out that the spring had unrolled about an inch and a half or more so that wasnt any good. I decided to go ahead and break out the wifes credit card and order me up some new springs. I ordered some NICE scott drake springs from summit. I checked them out and they looked great and would fit a mustang and the reviews were positive and said to fit many other cars in the similar platform. well only after being a dumb a$$ again I just went blazing through pushing out the aluminum roller to put in the new springs. after the roller got pressed in the new springs I realized the shackle bushing holes were MUCH bigger than the original ones.... so I checked the closest auto parts stores and no one had anything that would fit. so then after luggin the new 5 leaf springs to all of these stores I think of a mustang shop by my house an hour away from the shop I work on my car at all the time. and I just told him scott drake and he found me exactly what I needed for $15. at this point Im thinking YES finally something is going my way. I call my wife at home and convince her to pick them up and bring them to me and I press those in and they look great Im all ready to bolt everything up right? WRONG! the front part of the chassis kit wont go over the spring like it did on the old one. so I thought alright no biggie I can just open the clamps and take the spring out thats in the way. NOPE! they dont com apart without cutting the clamps and buying new ones. so I came up with another plan to just cut the end of that one spring off. well that worked now I was able to put the front part on. woohoo something is going my way well NOPE again. I start to put the leaf spring up in the back after getting the front all bolted in and noticed I was having a hard time getting the shackles to line up I thought well its just because the springs are new and have more arch in them so after plenty of I got it all together and bolted it up. at this point I start moving forward with putting the rearend in. once I got it up and got the new trick brackets in place and started tightening them up I realized the caliper bolts were hitting the spring before I could fully tighten the u bolts. well I said okay Im done for the day Im tired I just want to see what its going to look like with the tires on and the ride height. well I went to put the tire on and I realized the rearend was too far forward. at that moment I realized why I had SUCH A HARD TIME the leaf springs are too short!@ they dont fit now that I was just blazing through and cut he springs I cant return them and that makes me out $220 I guess thats what I get trying to save money and not buying the ones other guys here have bought that fit perfectly. okay thats the progress for now more struggles I mean updates later
