Thinking about putting a new radiator in the car. I am running a 302, nothing fancy. Any recommendations on a decent 3-row radiator? Preferably in the 150 range but I am definitely open to suggestions!
I just bought a Champion 3 row. Very nice quality! The only issue is the drain port is not usable. Probably a bit more than you want to spend, but its worth it.
I think you will find out that most people will tell you a Champion radiator is what they are running, good fitment except for the drain petcock has an issue with part of the frame cross brace needing to be trimmed a touch. Havent looked at the prices lately but are in that area

Thanks for the part number, I was able to find one a bit cheaper. Still need to do a bit more shopping around though.
I use Champion radiators in all my cars. I talked with them about the petcock fitment, I asked them if they would put it on the bottom and they did. The radiator fits better and theres no more splatter when draining it. The pictures are of a 2 core with 1" cores sitting in a 73 Comet. I have a 3 core in my 70 Maverick and it still took a little shaving to fit but not much.
My next question, do I really need a 3 core? I currently have a stock 2 core in my car right now, the engine will run about 190 highway and 175 in traffic. I would like to get it a bit cooler because it will get pretty hot in the summer. I already have added a remote trans cooler, and 5 blade flex flan. Would a new 2 core be able to handle this or go to a 3? Thanks for all the input so far!
A 2 core would probably be good enough especially if you are running the stock radiator that came with the car originally, you would be looking at about $60.00 to $70.00 dollars or more cheaper with a 2 core. What kind of driving do you do? It may help to go to an electric fan if you do a lot of town driving or stop and go traffic when you dont get enough air movement through the radiator
Hi William: Been noticing your posts . You might want to consider an electric fan for additional cooling. The "Flex Fans" have been noted to fail and disintegrate and cause serious injury even loss of life . We lost a friend several years ago when he was " winging" the throttle to his 302 and the fan separated and one of the blades caught him on the neck and he didn't make it to the ER . ( True Story) .. I removed them from our cars long ago . I have a NEW fan still in the box that I purchased many years ago that I'm going to " pitch" I wouldn't GIVE it or SELL it to anyone.Just my personal input. Nothing too harsh, mostly highway and city driving. I don't push the car to awefully hard. I just put on an electric fan seems to help a bit but still not where I would like. It's actually cooler at stoplights because the flex fan draws a good amount of air.
Hey chip, I already have a small electric fan on the outside that pushes air through the radiator. But I would be interested in seeing the fan though, I always appreciate the help. Hoping to make a trip up there before my break ends. Good to know about the flex fan, definitely going to have to keep that one in mind...
I know what you mean. We rigged up a Pusher AND a Puller fan on the last three cars and it worked out really well.. The Pusher Fan activates at 185 degrees.. and I have a manual "override switch" that I can turn on when I park or if I'm at a traffic tie-up to aid in the cooling process. We took the Comet on a 4400 mile Power Tour last June and didn't overheat once .. even when idling at the stops for long periods of time . The TWO fan setup is extra insurance and not difficult to hook up with relays. Cometized (Chip)
Hello again Will: Are you going to make it to the NPD show this coming January 9th at Crystal Springs (Ocala) Florida ? There will be lots of Mavericks and Comets there and you would be able to meet a lot of people from MCCI also at the event. Go early if possible .. sometimes parking can be scarce. Lemmeno if you're going . Thanks Chip
I have one of these on a stock two core brass radiator, no issues... http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-ALL-ALU...ash=item43debe9256:g:e5MAAOxy4eJTMDwI&vxp=mtr
