Does anyone know if it has been done for sure though ? I have a 71 mav and a 99 cobra that has a vortech centrical supercharger, 14" brembo brakes cobra race seats and is making over 500rwhp. ( just to name a few of the things )The car is totaled, the car is complete/running/driving and was crashed in the rear. I purchased the car for $3500 from a friend, and was planing on putting the swap into another 99 mustang but would much rather swap in the maverick. The car has gone 11.3 in the 1/4 mile. @3800lbs roughly fully dressed(stock ) 99 cobra convertible. I could only imagine the swap in a 2700lb maverick. I was thinking a mustang two front suspension and custom mounts may work, but wouldn't know where to start. I am a diesel mechanic with 6 year of experience in Welding/mechanical work. But my boss is a seasoned races with a dragster and a roadrunner. And says building something like this would cost 60,000 dollars. He also recommend having it built by a professional and the car back halved as well. What's your options ?
It really depends on what you want to do with it. At the very least though, you are looking at a new front suspension (MII, or Strut).
You can do this yourself and on the cheap. I bought the AJE kits front and rear for my maverick. For the front end kit you NEED parts from sn95 mustangs to complete kit so your set there. You will need spindles and brakes off your car. I heard you can use your rack by just shortening the inner tie rods. Kit calls for a FOX body rack. For the rear If you get the AJE torque arm package you can use the rear end out of your car and it will then bolt into the Maverick. You are saving everywhere with this deal. Also you can buy the AJE mini shock towers like I did to open up the engine compartment to fit your 4.6 DOHC in there. You can order Mod motor mount with the AJE "Colt 65" front end kit. This stuff is just a CC away LOL. And the prices are really good thru AJE. Thanx so much @351Blueblood honestly. My main concern was the front end swap, I have seen many Mavericks with leafs/caltracs with good 60' times. And that would be my only concern, do you know if I would be able to fit my bremebo brakes onto the aje kit ?
if you are a very good welder you should be able to do it yourself 60 grand is Reality show prices everyone wants to quote what you see on TV remember it is a TV show not the real world
Yes cars 60ft good with leafs and caltracs. But you are most of the time buying split mono leaf springs$ to go with those Caltracs$ and real setups run sliders $ out back then you still have to move leafs inboard to gain really big tire room. I know peeps will say I have caltracs and wide tires ,cool. Plus you will have to cut and weld your 8.8 to go in with leafs or buy a 9 inch rear instead of just bolting your 8.8 right in the car. And yes your brembos will work with AJE front end. You will just pop whole spindle,hub,rotor,caliper bracket and caliper assembly off your smashed car and mount it onto the AJE lower control arm. The prices from AJE are 1400 for front end and I think 1500 for rear kit with no coil overs(i had those) and 500 for mini towers. So $3400 is way off from 60K I would say.
@351Blueblood. Not trying to play the grinch today.. but it's highly unlikely that you will just bolt those parts onto an existing 8.8" rearend and swap it all over into these narrower frame-rails. Unless maybe I missed something about aje revamping their early Mustang kits to fit the narrower Mavericks framerails? Either way.. the housing will need to be stripped and have its brackets repositioned even if that kit did actually fit under there. Use the search feature and you'll see that others have tried with this kit(and other kits) and the degree of modification/welding work is fairly substantial. Plus you'll end up modding and re-engineering more than a few of those shiny parts to revamp their geometry just so they all fit together correctly under this narrower platform. Maybe you could pm GrabberGT to see what he did to his rear setup. IIRC, he mod'd a TCI setup but I could be wrong on the brand. Aside from that.. we look forward to seeing your progress and what is required on the users end to create a true bolt in rear kit from aje. Happy Holidays.
[/URL][/IMG] The rear AJE torque Arm "Maverick" kit is made off of and only for a MAVERICK. The torque arm mounts directly to a FOX body 8.8 . Since I have one of the the first production AJE torque arms I can't see you or anyone having knowledge about this kit. Have you personally worked with this kit? EDIT: I just noticed and I'm going to guess you are talking about AJE's early mustang subframe kit. This kit is NOT the torque arm Maverick kit. The AJE early mustang subframe will NOT fit in Maverick narrower frame rails. That is why they came out with the torque arm kit.
Here is the pic of the AJE 64-70 Mustang rear subframe. Notice it does not look anything like Torque Arm set up.
I will lay it out so people can see how the AJE Torque arm kit bolts in a Maverick with a Fox body 8.8. First here is the Torque arm that bolts (clamps) right on a Fox 8.8 rear. Also when you buy this kit you get subframe connectors in the deal! Which are bolt on too.(i'm welding all my stuff in) What's nice about this kit is you can dial in your pinion angle right on the torque arm and not mess with control arms to do this. Where you see the long bolt on right side of arm mount,that gets pushed to rear and then that mounts the fully adjustable panhard bar. The panhard bar is also the coilover upper shock mount.That also bolts into car. You can see the poly mount on one end this mounts to that long bolt I mentioned above.
