What rear tires are y'all running or recommend running with a C4 and 4-11 gears? I'd been running a 275/60/15 on mine but I'm curious what the concensus of the group is. What's working for y'all? Thanks!
It is, I can't exactly remember why I went with that tall of a tire, it's been too many years. Possibly trying to get rpm down, I just can't remember...
I think I may stick with my 275/60 for now then. They're 28 inches tall I believe... I can't wait to get the 4:11 posi I bought tonight installed!
I'm running a 275\60 drag radial also. Had to make some room(rolled fender lip) and a 3\4" lift shackle, but they fill up the wheel well nicely, got a pair of 28\9\15 slicks for the track that I don't see a problem with either.
How does it hook with the 28" tires? What have you got done suspension-wise, besides the shackle? I run a set of 4 leaf springs and clear mine.
It didn't hook at all, I went to the track once with the drag radials and did everything wrong. (stock rear shocks, Cal-tracs way off, and way to much heat on the tires)Only made 5 passes and spun them horribly. I have no idea how to hook up drag radials, ran a best of 12:13 et @115 mph. I had 4 leafs and 42 yr. old stock shocks w\Cal-Tracs, going back in the spring with split-mono leafs, adj. shocks and slicks. And a 8 point cage.
That's what I'm concerned with. I don't know what I need to do yet to hook... I hope you get lined out! That's still pretty dang fast for not hooking!
Thanks, I know it's got 11s in it, that's why I'm getting the cage. I'll get thrown outta the track without it. I just wanted a simple, reliable foot brake car. So far, so good.
I run 28x10.50 Mickey Thompson Sportsman pro's on mine tight fit rolled lips. Car runs 8.1 in 1/8th mile 306 t5 trans 411 gears home made slapper bars usually hooks quite well at our local track (airport) not the best surface.
I ran a 4.11 and a 275/60 for years. Ran a radial and a 28x9 slick also. I recently changed to a 3.50 gear and it sure make life better on the street. But if I can get to the track this year the 4.11 is going back in.
Get the Rancho adjustable shocks from cal-trk,& when you go to the trk put some 90/10 on the front & take them off when you go home,I would not run them on the street. With that bigger tire & shackles make sure your pinyon angle is correct as this will also effect the way the car hooks.
It was the 1st time at the track in 10 years for me, and 1st with this car. Pinion angle was good, I put the shackles on after I got my 9" in it, the 9" has bigger tubes and taller spring mounts which lowered the car a touch. I went out to the track without the knowledge of getting a drag radial to hook-up, and it was a busy test and tune the day before the Nostalgia Nationals out at Milan Dragway. I only made five passes. I'm just going to put the slicks on it and be done with the guess work.
Showing my ignorance now. How do I check my pinion angle? I'm installing a 4:11 posi chunk in mine next week.
