Ok guys i got this car it had only reverse. No forward gears at all. I pulled trans, rebuilt, reinstalled. Added four quarts fluid, started engine idling finished fill trans. Put in reverse, works. Put in drive, works. No leaks I'm good. So i thought. I lowered car off jack stands. Backed up. Pulled forward and smoke from under car. I'm losing fluid fast. It's coming from case side of bell housing where the two come together. I installed new bushings, seals, and pump gasket. Everything is new. Wasn't leaking before. Could i have cracked something? Pump not seated right?? I torqued with bell housing on. Maybe pump didn't seat???

Did you lube the input seal before installing the torque converter?

I lubed everything with lucas. I didn't think about seal because not coming out on flywheel side of bell housing. Gushing out on case side where comes together

I put new lines. It leaks more towards driver side. Does anyone know if this should have o ring and gasket? Or just gasket? ? Po had weather stripping glue all over it. Only had a gasket when I tore it apart.

Is that a casting flaw on the gasket surface at about the 2:00 position? It's been a long time since I've had one apart but I think there is an o ring that goes on the outside flange.

I'm not sure. I'm trying to figure out if needs oring. It wasn't leaking when I took apart. But gushes now. This is the pump

See i found that same diagram of parts. But the rebuild kit didn't have one and i didn't remove a o ring. But who ever had apart had weather stripping yellow glue on it. I liked to never got out.

Inside the edge of the case there is a groove. I think that's where the o ring seats.

I'm ordering a gasket set with o ring. I'm going to pull trans and see what happens. I think i have a older tranny than i thought. I ordered rebuild kit for 71 to 82 c4. I'm getting a gasket and seal for a 64 comet c4 has oring. See if still leaks. I hope not. Building this car for my 15 year old daughter first car.

That's why I'm glad she likes old cars. Plenty of metal... add seat belts and disc brakes.
