Hey guys, I need help with this problem that I have! My maverick is a '72 Grabber 302 and the fuel filter is located near the distributor and the carburetor (that's how it was when I first bought it). I noticed that around there was a small puddle of gas on the intake manifold! I am not sure what to do because every time I check the filter, it is never dripping in gasoline. I also need to mention the the carburetor installed was an aftermarket Weiand and I am hoping that it is not coming from there! Some please let me know what I should do or check please!! PS- I don't know how many gallons the tank it or how many miles I get per gallon but I usually have to refill the tank 4-5 after a full tank and I use it everyday and drive about 40 minutes a day to and from my destination(s). I also need help with this!
Yes and not only is it still intact but there are no signs of wear which is why I need help! I wil post pictures later, more likely tomorrow because it is night but other than that I am stuck! It still runs though!
what kind of carb do you have? if holley, check to make sure its not the carb plate seal. or bowl seals...
I would check it right after driving it with the engine running. Maybe it needs fuel pressure before it leaks.
I don't know what kind of filter I have but I am guessing that it is just a standard one nothing special! The carburetor is made by Weiand and I might just check the seals just in case! I have tried testing the car as it idled and there were still no signs of leaks and such. The fuel pressure is consistent as well! I could be the seals because when I first bought it off the seller he tpold me what he'd change and never mentioned anything of the seals!
I had one of those plastic filters on my car for abt 2 yrs. it almost caught the car of fire. The plastic nipples deformed, spraying fuel all over the engine compartment. I was lucky, the car started loosing power coming over a bridge one nite from a cruise-inn and abruptly stalled. I was about half mile from home, had the car towed home. I wud una$$ that "PLASTIC" POS filter first and see if you still have the leak. You've looked over most everything else and have not found the problem..
Yeah I have the same problem you had just coming out of the drive way! I will change it but which one would I buy and what brand?!
I agree with mojo. I've had one of those leak before, switched to the spectre clear replacable filter.
If ur going w/ clear unit, something in the glass type segment will probably best bet. I believe the one 71_Maverick is on that order. I am using a metal filter but, also have a glass unit hanging on the garage wall. I feel better using metal, but, wud never use a plastic again; I was fortunate when my plastic unit went south. Funny thing, I had both of the filters I mentioned previously in my possession for over a year and to busy/lazy, going to get to it philosophy and it almost cost me, big time.
IF yours is puddling near the coil, all it will take is a loose spark to ignite a underhood fire! I have been there. Check to see if the Carb is leaking at the base gasket. Check the main butterfly shaft for leaks,on sides.
