I don`t have much experience with drag radials but from what I understand you don`t do a very hard burn out,I think getting them to hot makes them fade. There is a gauge you get, some are magnetized, you stick on your hogs hd to ck pinyon angle. You want the U-Joint 2 to 4 degrees down. For anyone interested there is a guy on Roanoke Va craigs list w/ a lot of Maverick & Comet stuff for sale.
No real trick to Drag Radials. Run 17 lbs and do the typical 4 second burnout and you will feel the tire start to drag down the rpm. Release the line lock and finish the burnout. Read the tire to see how its working and the patch that is hitting the track.
I've done a couple of test launches now, just feeling it out. Anything above 1500 RPMs blows the tires off. Car goes to the right pretty hard, but that could have been due to the cheapo gauge I used to check them. I'd love to try a set of drag radials, but I need to use what I have right now. I'm hoping to get some more seat time this weekend. I'm just thrilled to drive it again, lol. Once it hooks, it LEAVES, lol. I just need to figure out how to use the trac loc and 4:11 gears. It's different from the 3:00 and open diff!!
I'm running at 389 gear and I run the Nitto 295/50/15 about 15 pounds run 7.60 93 mph 1/8 11.94 in the quarter mile 115 mile an hour still didn't hook all the way now I'm running Hoosier 26/9 slicks hadn't quite got used to the slicks maybe this year how can improve on this time. I'm not running any shocks at all on the front. I drive it on the street.
There is an app for iPhone called Tremec Tool Box. Really cool. You actually use your iPhone to find your pinion angle.
Ive ran my E70/14 whitewalls and only got down to a 2.0 60 ft. Now ive got on 26 x 8 QTPs and have a best 1.71 60 ft, with more there. Stock rear springs with an add a leaf, caltracs snugged up, and Rancho RS5000 set all the way soft. I put the add a leaf in to level out the car. Too stiff for drags tho, so I'm gonna remove for next time I go.
Pinion Angle............ You need a magnetic angle finder. Get the car up in the air but have the weight on each tire as if it is sitting on the ground. A drive on lift is a big plus. Measure the vertical face of the pinion flange and write it down. Measure the horizontal angle of the driveshaft then subtract the angles from each other. You're looking for -2 to -4 degrees. Drag Radials...........as mentioned. Anywhere from 15-17 psi depending on the manufacturer. A 4-5 second burnout should be enough as long as you hit it hard. Do not use a cheap gauge. Also, don't use a stiff shock with a drag radial. You need to be able to plant the suspension with the Cal-Tracs.
Will a 28x11.5 quick time fit in place of my 275/60/15? Hoosier's site says that they're 27.9 tall with a 10 inch tread width and an 11.2" section width. It seems pretty much what I have with my tires now... Anybody running these? Thanks!

What's the rest of your combo? I don't think you will hook without a soft tire. It's time to save up some dough and get a set of drag radials. Your just wasting your time and tread with those street tires. The torque multiplication with those 4.11's will blow any street tire off. Good luck.
I have a moderate 306, c-4 and trac loc rear end, but it's acting up. I have a spare 4.11 chunk so I ordered a mini spool and I'm thinking that'll help. I also ordered a shift kit and will be installing a hammer shifter in the car. I've been shifting the auto on the column, but I think the shifter will help. I was wanting a stock look. But I also want performance, lol. I think I'm going to pick up a slightly used set of slicks and ill try it all again. I really need a stall. I know launching from idle is hurting me also...
I run 28x10.5 mickys slicks fit with no problems and I cross the traps at 6,900 right at the end of my HP range
