What is going on with my truck's headlights???

I have an 04 1500, mostly stock. The headlight lenses fogged up, and after "repairing" them 3 times, I decided to get new ones.

I cannot get them to go up high enough to be anywhere near what the factory manual says they need to be. At 25 feet from the test screen, and with them adjusted all the way up, they are still about 6-8 inches off the ground of the screen, and nowhere near the level line on the screen. Maybe 24 inches low.

But worse, when I switch from low beams to high beams, it almost looks like the driver side goes to high and the passenger side goes to low.

And the pattern is like a V.

Is this an issue with the bulbs, the bezels, or what?

Should I replace with some projector-type lights, and if so, please suggest a decent set.

Yeah, off of ebay. Think that's the problem?

my body Guy told me..."it's just as much work if not more to fit aftermarket panels/parts as to repair the orginial".

Are the insert tabs correct?? Meaning does the bulbs fit into housing like original??

 

Most likely wired incorrectly (the part). Friend of mine bought an electrical plug replacement and externally the plug matched. Internally the entire internal plug was upside down.

Check both sides of the light connections and make sure the same wire goes to the same place right to left first.

 

Even if I fix the wiring, I still cannot adjust it up any further. Looking at other aftermarket options, or replace with OEM.

 

Anyone have any experience with ANZO products. They have the same OEM-looking kit, and for twice the price I can go projector. But don't want to spend a bunch more money and end up right back where I am now.

 

Not wanting to spend any more money, I started to put washers between the lower and outside mounting bolts and frame, and physically aimed the headlights up, buckets and all. I also cut out the reflecting "parachute" that hovers in front of the bulb, because it was making my round light pattern turn into that V shape, and greatly diminishing the light output. The light on the passenger side that was going down with high beams was actually installed 180 degrees upside down, so fixed that.

After about 2 weeks of adjustments, got them adjusted not quite as high as the Dodge repair manual suggests, but high enough that the low beams actually show the road, and high beams light up EVERYTHING!!!

So on a test drive last night, I drove about 5 miles up the road, then flipped on the high beams, and passed two cars and nobody blinked at me. I was afraid by cutting out that parachute, I would be blinding oncoming drivers.

Then I turned around in a driveway, and started to head back home, and immediately my radar detector starts going off. I left the high beams on, continued my drive, and the first car is TX DPS (highway boys) and he didn't blink me or anything. Passed about 10 more cars with my high beams on and not a single blink. So apparently, it isn't blinding anyone.

In fact, I might just drive with my high beams on most of the time unless I start getting blinked at.

My guess is that with all the REALLY bright headlights on the roads nowadays, my high beams are "just another set of bright lights" and nobody blinks anymore???

 

They actually light up the road better than the stock buckets and brighter aftermarket Sylvania lights EVER did.

I have never been impressed with this truck's night vision...

 

I dunno but is a pet peeve of mine, IF I EVEN THINK a oncoming car MAY have on his brights, they get a taste of mine...

 

Me too, which is why I gave nearly 20 people a chance to look at mine and "tell me" that my brights are too bright. Nobody blinked me.

I guess I could have my wife drive the truck and I drive her car in opposing directions and see for myself, but so far, nobody has blinked me.

I actually turned around right near a little nightclub/bar and encountered the DPS officer, so I figured he would think I was drunk and use the high beams as an excuse to pull me over. He didnt, so I assume the lights are not too bright.

Which makes me think that the headlights are still too low, and I have more room to move them up.

But, as I said earlier, they are much nicer now than they ever were since I bought it new. So I am a happy camper!!!

I have probably 12 various-sized washers behind the frames. Some are the thick Cragar rim washers. So we are talking about 1/2 to 3/4" of spacer to aim them to where they are now. I am not going to space them out any further. They are already sticking out and nowhere NEAR flush to the fender.

 

around S.Atl. there were gang bangers riding around with their brights on and the people that flashed their brights to tell them...were shot...
