yes i measured the two top bolt holes, and it is the smaller bellhousing out of the 3 different sizes. 5 1/4 as i recall. the other two for the bigblocks, are 6in and 7 3/4in apart, i believe... going off memory as far as the block plate, i chose that one because when and if i decide to put the aod back in, this block plate can be used for all sizes..
alright so update... turns out i was wrong, lol torque converter bolts are 11 3/8s apart.. not 10.5... lol so i took back my flexplate an starter i bought, an ordered the correct bolt pattern, at 164tooth now.. hopefully everything will all work out
I'm back! Army had me on a hiatus.. Anyway instead of starting a new thread I figured I'd continue off this one since alot of info was already covered. after driving my car with the converter that came with the rebuilt C4(unknown stall) for a few years. I am displeased with the performance, It even has a pulsating vibration when at cruising at higher RPM. most of the vibrations went away when I had my driveline retubed and balanced, it was about 1 /12 inch too short after the AOD to c4 swap. Anyway., I would like to buy a brand new converter(higher stall). the one I have has an 11 3/8 bolt pattern which required a 164tooth flexplate, and every converter I am looking at getting has a 10.5 pattern. so my questions are can I buy a 10.5 T.C and swap out the 11 3/8 one? I have a 157th 50oz flexplate on the shelf brand new (10.5) buy a new starter for 157th? also might be looking into gear reduction starters this is the converter I am Planning on buying http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Ford-...onverter-2500-2800-Stall-24-Spline,35432.html
Welcome back!!!! Maybe incorrect but AFAIK, the converters with 11 3/8" pattern only fit 164T flexplates, those plates will not fit in a 157T bell(I've tried LOL)... Starters are same for either 157T or 164T applications but I believe starters for 157T in a 164 bell are unobtainium... The factory V8 C4 in these cars were all 157T units...
my C4 is a pan fill which is why it came with the 11 3/8 converter from what ive read... and the current flex plate in it is 164
Yeah pan fill C4 with 168T are generally truck/Galaxie units... It's been said the 157T bell will bolt on a 168(or was it vice versa?)but leaves a gap on the outside of transmission... I know I've seen one in service but don't remember which direction swap is possible... I can find out though...
I dont wanna change the Bell if I dont have to... I just wanna find a high stall torque converter for 11 3/8, 164th plate... It seems like everyone I find is for 10.5
If you want to keep your existing c4 then the 164t flex plate is what has to be used. So you have 3 options; 1. Re-drill flexplate for 10.5 t/c 2. Find new 164t fp with 10.5 pattern 3. Find t/c with 11 3/8 bolt pattern
a 164t fp for 10.5 does not exist from what I can research.. also I would be willing to get rid of the fp to run a 10.5 t/c but can I put a 157t fp in a 164t bellhousing?
call a converter co.(any) and tell them what motor and trans you have and they should get you straight on the converter/flexplate you need...
thanks. I found on summit BOSS and TCI makes TC for pan fill C4's with 11.4 bolt pattern. I have to run my numbers cause they have 24 and 26 spline. I believe mine is 26spline
I originally bought a summit converter by BOSS Hogge... Sent it back because it wouldn't seat deep enough not to bind when trans bolted up... Got a Hughes, been perfect...
That Sux... I talked with Brian and it's possible to bolt a case fill 157T bell onto a pan fill tran that uses 164T... Remove bell and pump bolts, then bolt the smaller 157T bell back in place same as it was on the case fill, must use the longer case fill bolts... He has one same configuration behind a 393 in a Fairmont, car runs 11.0s...
I found two options on summit. Boss hogs makes a 11.4 bolt converter for the pan fill c4. 26spline. 2800 stall. They have a 12" for $241 and a 10" for $297
