Looking to get my Grabber repainted and wondered what's the price you paid. If in my area who did it and if you were happy. I have no rust and no decklid or hood to paint. What's the procedure for a show quality paint job. Thanks in advance for y'all imput.
I would be surprised if ANYONE on this forum has a $25,000.00 Paint Job .. maybe for the CAR too ! You're talking "Jay Leno" prices .. wow ! Cometized (Chip)
Beware of the inevitable "Paint Jail", too! Money isn't the only thing a Show Quality paint job will cost you. It'll cost you time in your schedule. I've seen cars in body shops for literally years before they are completed. Ask for everything in writing and workout a payment schedule based on the shop meeting certain milestones.
Wow maybe a show and driver paint job is what I need. If I spent $25K on a paint job I would be scared to drive it for fear of a chip? I don't have Jay Leno budget, so I need lower standards I guess I have seen some great looking paint jobs on cars here and I highly dought they cost $25K Instead of SHOW quality how about a quality paint job that I can take to car shows???
That makes a lot more sense IMHO! Most folks in the real world can't afford 25K for a paint job. A lot of folks can't even afford 25K for a car they don't use on a regular/daily basis.
It would depend on what quality you want, do you want everything taped off? Blueprinted (interior)? Anywhere from $2-4K for a decent paint job.
There are cars on this board that have paint jobs of that caliber. You don't have to look too far either. I know of at least two that fall into this category. If you're paying for a shop to perform a complete overhaul, metal fab, body work, prep, colour, clear and cut/buff it's not going to take long to burn through that kind of money--and that's not considering any custom work incorporated into the car (one-off parts, drip rail delete, etc). I agree it's not for everyone (including myself), but I don't think it's appropriate to assume it isn't happening. A rising tide lifts all boats, so I welcome serious enthusiasts who are prepared to raise the bar.
"Paint Jail" is the big thing to look out for...don't go in with the idea if you tell them "you're in no hurry" that it will be cheaper. do you want a drive in drive out paint job? do you want a color change, that intells cutting in door jams, trunk and fenders? do you want the door handles, mouldings, bumpers, spoiler and window trim taped or removed? my first Mav I drove in and a year and 2 months later I sent a rollback to pick up the pieces...body, doors, fenders etc. I gave all of it away, I was done with it. had about 14K in the car prep and 1 coat of paint at that point. and the biggy...I hope you get what you pay for... remember...to them...It's just a Maverick...
another thing to think about... “many cars were at shops for months or years with [the drivers’] deposits spent. “And the cars are in pieces, and the shop has closed or changed owners.” this is an example of car jail, that's where his was when we went to this car show, this was almost 2 yrs 6 months ago...car still not painted... he wanted this shop because it was "the best" in the area.
Yeah I will have the car with no engine or trans and can remove all bolt ons also. Plus no hood or decklid as mine will be carbon.
Yeah I don't want that I have heard horror stories. I have only ever had one car painted and itS wasn't a good experience.
The cheaper you pay....the lesser the quality. Most of the time the cost savings is made by using cheaper products. It takes pretty much the same amount of prep and labor to shoot a $700 paint job as a $3500 paint job. You can get a Maaco quality job for around $500 to $2000. Depends on what all you want done. I would say you can get a decent to really nice "cruiser" type paint job for around $3500 to $5000 The more you can do yourself......the more you will save in money....or at least get a better finished product. I did ALL the prep work on this car and had it shot in blue for $500. I put the flame decals on myself. Paint job lasted maybe 4 or 5 years before the clear coat started peeling off. The Maverick below I dismantled myself, took it to a shop and they did all the body work and paint for $2500. I had to put it all back together. It was a very nice paint job.
Awesome Craig the paint job on your Mav would work for me and I don't mind spending $2500-$5000 for annice job but k ow way I would spend $25K on paint I would buy a new car instead LOL
