It is the 8" that came in the car. Third pumpkin, though ....

There were thoughts of a narrowed Explorer 8.8 at one point .... easy 3.55 or 3.73 gears, posi, 31 spline axles, and disc brakes ...

I realized I said I would update how my maverick faired as a daily driver. I put 4000 miles on it since late spring until i parked it in December, and it did VERY well. I only got stranded once...and that was due to the SHIFTER breaking (which should never have happened, and i was close to home). With a half-assed tune I averaged 24MPG highway, and 12 in city (Once the MAF curve gets tuned those numbers should both rise a decent amount, at least 2mpg or more). The ride quality, and handling are sub-par, and need work, but the pleasure of driving it everyday made up for that ten-fold. I got more compliments, thumbs up, and stories than I've ever experienced before, and kids loved the car. I can't wait for spring to get the old girl back out on the road!

I would never drive my classic cars daily, had a guy run a red lite years ago and totaled my 55 club sedan, fortunately I was a body man and repaired the car, learned a big lesson that day. Nowadays it would be even worse, with everyone on their phones or texting, people today just dont give a shoot about anything, much less a classic car. I only drive my nice stuff on a good weather day, plus the insurance limits how much it can be driven,

thankfully my maverick isnt...nice ;)(y) Keeps me from being afraid to drive it. I love driving my 82 LTD-S police car around here with all the traffic, it's so big, and with the massive front push-bar people keep their distance. :bananaman:

I have driven mine equally split between my vehicles for the 16 years since I installed the EFI engine and only lately have I tapered off to about once or twice a week. People around here seem to be getting a lot more careless and traffic is much worse than just a few years ago. I don't even think about driving in ice or snow (what little we get) and not much in the rain if I can help it, but it's because of the average idiot instead of the car's ability. Plus, I got a new(to me) truck and the newness hasn't worn off yet

I have a 65 fairlane, a 55 fairlane, my Maverick and an 05 Mustang that are all nice cars. They get driven about once or twice a week depending on the weather, or if there is a show to go to. But not used as an everyday driver....too risky. My 55 got creamed in the side while driving to work (on my anniversary) in 1979, and havent driven them as daily drivers since. Gotta take care of em, if you wanna keep em nice.

I totally agree with 55crownvic. People around here don't respect what your driving whether it's a classic or older daily driver. My 2001 daily driver F150 was totaled by a girl who had been driving only four years and her record revealed an accident every year. When she hit me she was texting and somehow didn't see the stop sign. My current daily was rearended by a guy driving his sister's minivan and neither had insurance.
I'm almost afraid to drive either my Maverick or our one-owner '79 T/A around town because of all of the morons on the road anymore.

It can be done but most don't enjoy such experiences as the vehicles value increases. The outright paranoia and level of defensive driving skills required to consistently cruise a really nice car around in traffic.. not to mention temporarily walking away from it in parking lots.. usually isn't worth the added risk, stress, and potential hassle to most.

My opinion is that a phone or any other electronic device should not be held in a persons hand while they're operating a moving motor vehicle. Period. And cops should also be enforcing inattentive driving MUCH more often than they currently are. Computer screens(command modules) being installed in more and more cars is only making things worse too.
