took the car for a quick spin - rides awesome. gears are quiet, pinion angle needs some attention, though. will do some more wiring tonight and see if i can ride it some more!
not a lot of driving done due to the weather. used the trunk lid from my parts car to fit the spoiler, had it painted. we'll see how that looks mounted on the car!
put the new lid with the spoiler on. needs adjusting a little. but all in all, i'm not quite sure wether i like it. the upper portion of the lid looks perfect, but the flat surface on the back not so much. it's jut too empty... i liked it much better with the chrome trim and the mercury script. i'll see how i can adapt this to the current lid.
I think it looks awesome. I love when people put the Grabber spoiler on Comets, because they were never an option but should have been. You can always put the chrome on there if you want. I can see how there may not be enough contrast with a black car.
I agree with Larry. I like the rear spoilers on Comets. It looks awesome!! You could put the Mercury script on one end of the center piece, like the Maverick script on the Grabbers. Have you looked at it outside in daylight from a bit farther away?
I have a Mercury script with the studs broken off. I'll try to fill the back up with epoxy, grind it flat and glue it on. Adapting the Chrome trim to the lid is easy, but to the extensions not so much. I'll need to drill some holes to fit it. We'll see
I don't know about adding the Mercury script, (I tend to keep badging to a minimum),but really like the idea of the chrome rear trim. I want to do this myself. Here's how to git-er-done ..... and more pics on the next page .... http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/my-72-comet-build.91278/page-27
We have a Grabber spoiler on our small bumper converted '75 Comet GT. I found a NOS '71 Comet 'Mercury' script for the rear of the car on Ebay. I ground the studs off and used 3M double-sided tape to put it on the Grabber spoiler so I wouldn't have to drill any holes. Our car also had the rear chrome trim deleted and we put black pin stripe on it in the same way a Grabber tail panel treatment is done. We are very happy with the end results.
