I bought another car to part out, but I have no keys. I pulled the lock cylinder out of the door, thinking I could take it to a locksmith and just have them cut a key for that....and it would work in the ignition. One locksmith told me he thinks that the door cylinder only has (3) pins, and if he cuts a key for that...it will not work on the ignition as it has (5) pins. Another locksmith told me he thinks the door cylinder does have (5) pins, like the ignition. Anybody know for sure? Thanks
Looking at my keys they have five pins (door, ignition) maybe door lock was changed on you parts car ?
All locks except for glove box have five, the '60s/70s glove box locks I've repinned only had three.. Locksmith must not be very observant, it will obvious cap that retains pins is longer than for only three... Sometimes the passenger lock has key code stamped into it, will be FA and four numbers... Trunk locks are FB and four...
He was saying that even if the key was cut for 5 pins...the door only has 3. Locksmiths never saw the cylinders as I talked to them on the phone. I also have the passenger side out as well...but I see no stampings on it.
My 1974 Comet came without keys. I removed a door cylinder and the key made for it worked in the ignition. It had a code on it as well.
I called Hagerty, they called a locksmith...about 30 mins. I had a new set of keys... next day I found the lost keys...
its not the cheapest route but call a mobile locksmith theyll come out and make you a key for anything you want. Ive had to use them on a couple of occasions. once for my comet and once for my truck I think it cost me about $80 each time
I talked to somebody today who told me the locksmith is suffering from dementia....which would explain why he sounded completely clueless about the entire thing. When he did it before, it was $10 for a key. No way would I pay $80 for a key. I can swap out a column if I have too. I did look at the passenger door cylinder today. It did, in fact, have the codes stamped into it.
all he needs is a bill of sale and Hagerty Ins. roadside service on one of his cars. they also cover $600 on parts that haven't been installed my car...
For a parts car???????????? Sounds unethical to me, I don't see buying any car without keys qualifying as lost...
no more than them paying $17,000 for a burned up 4 dr... how many "parts cars" have later been built? they also cover $600 on parts that haven't been installed...that isn't even a car...
So you're going to justify this by using a past claim??? Pay out is determined at time policy is written... I don't see a 4dr worth $17K but again if the value is agreed that's it... As far as spare parts I have $1000 on my Comet, can't see this enters into my observation one way or other...
