I surprised my dad today with an early father's day gift. We are from VA and I asked him if he wanted to ride with me to NC to look at a car. He said that he would like to tag along. I told him I was going to look at an old Maverick I was interested in. All along my plan was to get the car for him and surprise him. The man that was selling the car was aware of what I was planning so as we got down there and looked at the car he didn't mention anything of it. The car was as he described it and I paid him and we loaded it up on the car trailer. On the way back to VA I was asking my dad what he thought of the car . He said he thought it was a nice solid, good looking car. I told him I was glad he liked it, because it was his car! He said what do you mean? I handed him the keys and I said Happy early Father's Day! He said wow and started to cry! My dad is 76 years old and has always been there for me and I was glad that I was able to do something like this for him. This way when my uncle and I take our Mavericks and Comets to local cruise-ins my dad will be able to take his car along with us! The car is 69 1/2 Maverick that has been made to look like a Grabber. It is a factory 'Thanks Vermillion' color car (paint code 3, same as Calypo Corral, Competiton Orange) with black vinyl bench seat interior. They added the sport mirrors, Grabber rear spoiler, Grabber side stripes, Grabber style grille, deluxe gas cap, Comet GT hood scoop and deluxe door panels. It has the original 200 inline 6 motor with a column shifted C4 trans. The car was converted to 5 lug using a later model Maverick 8" rear with 3.00 gears and manual front disc brakes. It has a set of 14" aluminum wheels with 225/60/14 and 235/60/14 tires. The car also has a single inlet dual outlet Flowmaster 2 chamber muffler with nice stainless steel tips running out the rear of the car. The car has 107K miles on it and has a set of white faced gauges under the dash and a set of white face overlays on the factory speedometer and gauges. It seems like a really solid car with a pretty good paint job. The owner I got it from had the car for 8 years and it has been garage kept. I think with some cleaning and some detail work it is going to make my dad a nice little cruiser! I really like the color combo! Here are some pictures of the car on the trailer I took right after I got it home. I had time to give it a quick wash and dry so I could snap the pics. It rained right after that so I didn't have time to do any cleaning on the inside. Hopefully I can get some better pics tomorrow and later this week as we do a few things to it. I also had ordered a Marti Report for the car since I was pretty sure from the pics the owner sent me that I was going to get it.
That is so awesome (the car too)! My hat is off to you. I am pleased for your dad and proud of you even though I dont know you!
Awesome Fathers day gift. Love the car. I thought code 3 was bright red ? that is the paint code on mine and it is not calypso coral, I like the color on you're dads car better.
Thanks guys! Happy Birthday Frank! Thanks! This car was built June 11th, 1969. In '69 code 3 was Thanks Vermillion (called Calypso Corral on the Mustang). In 1971 code 3 was Bright Red.
Love the car absolutely beautiful, your a fine son I know I would have shed a tear or two also if either being the giver or receiver. Kudos to you
Brings back memories of my Dad and his 71 Grabber. He passed less than a year after we bought it, on Father's day. I had my own Grabber a year later.
