I forgot to mention that the higher-end top is available through SMS I believe. I'm pretty sure that's where @mavgrab302 got his IIRC.
LOL.. I usually have to refrain from speaking my mind and joking as I normally would because it tends to get me into trouble. I just looked at their catalog and it appears they only have the one version for our cars.. "Vinyl Tops The patterns for these tops are fitted, not universal, and are made to duplicate as closely as possible the fit and styling of the original top. Made from the highest quality Haartz fleece-back vinyl roof topping. Please provide the model of your vehicle when ordering. Available in Black (01) or White (05)". Looks like I'll have to dye or paint it red to match my factory color. Not the end of the world as it may be better for color matching the interior anyways. Could also dull it down with some satin too since my stripes and wheels will eventually be satin finished to kill some of the bling and make them pop a bit more as well. Thank you very much for the reply, Paul.
Oops.. didn't notice that last reply on the next page.. will check out SMS on Monday to see if they have something like the premium top you mentioned available in satin red.
newstalgia parts, has the same vinyl top $149.95 you can order other colors for $40 more. SMS vinyl top is $389.
Ouch!.. too much for something I'll be stripping back off later when I go racing with it. Thanks for the info guys.
Bought a parts car on Thursday. Stripped just about everything off it and it will be ready to go to the scrap yard tomorrow. This was a car I tried to buy back in 1995, then it disappeared, resurfaced with a V8 swap and interior swap from a 76 4dr. I have been trying to buy it from the last owner for a year, and then just missed it by two weeks and ended up buying it from the wrecking yard he sent it to after yanking the motor and trans. Luckily, he was dumb enough to leave all the frame mounts, etc... The car is a an early 75 with a serial of 103XXX and it has had "74" bumpers on it as long as I have known it. Maybe they were still using some 74 stuff into the next model year, who knows? And yes... it was YELLOW! LOL
Got my hood cleaned up underneath, sealed and ready for colour. If you look closely in the picture of the area inside the A-frame, you can see the outline of some numbers "707..." an horizontal line and then "ADA" under that. Not sure what it means, but I thought it was neat, so I tried to take a picture of it.
Thanks to @goldnrod for showing up to help me install and line-up my hood!! I spent the afternoon at the DMV getting my personalized plates switched from my Focus and onto the Maverick. It's been 13 years since these plates have been on a Maverick. And, yes... "FORDMAN" was already taken, so that's how I ended up with "FRDMAN". My wife bought them for me for my birthday back in 1998. "Fordman" was my nickname all through highschool... Also picked-up a battery from Car Quest and installed my Autolite batter cover. I had to massage the openings for the posts in order to get the cover to lay flat. I also had to file the part of the battery hold-down where it goes over the sides of the battery cover, as the cover is just a tad wider than the battery.
Paul I checked my hood rod when I got home and it is only about 2" from the metal hook holder. I could get a measurement if you need it but you might want to check the lenght on your second hood rod it might be shorter.
Thanks Tom! Thank You! I hope you're right! LOL Thanks Frank! Thanks Mike! I'll have a look for the second rod and compare. I'll keep my pry-bar in my trunk just in case I need to dial-in any more body panel gaps at the show...LOL
Paul, Nice detail work. Looks great. Enjoy! Now, you just have to worry about the idiots on the road and the ones at the car shows that want to touch your car. Micah
