Hello, My name is Hel and I have recently obtained by probably legal means a 1972 Ford Maverick in which I want to make into my post-apocalyptic car to ride about and rule the wasteland. Think.. XB Falcon (Mad Max). But Maverick style. I've worked on basic things, owning a '66 Plymouth Fury III and a '71 Valiant, but I've never crossed over into Ford and now I own one and am a deer in Maverick headlights. My plans, besides the one stated? - Learn a lot about working on my own car and what it takes, talking real engine work not just replacing hoses. - Possible engine/trans swap to the 5.0L - Painting / priming for matte black - Not restore at all, but rig and weld and install gadgets, whistles, and more - Learn it from the inside out Thanks for letting me join this community. If you have suggestions for reading material and videos for starting into basic mechanics of Fords of the 70's, engineering ideas, or just insane input, I would love any help and constructive criticism along the way. Here is what Helbragga looks like currently:
Great to know someone in the area! Know anyone with a good shop to get my car worked on if it comes down to it? I'm not equipped with my own picker and such so I may have to get the engine/trans and then take it in. Nice to meet you!
Don't know if they're a good shop or not, but there's one down here on 15-501 that pointed me to an alignment shop.
hello from Wendell.....have a friend there in durham thats a good guy...has his own shop..might be able to help you out some
That's great, let me know if he is looking for a fellow hand at doing jobs on cars. I'm in it to learn! Is Wendell far and do you ever meet or make it down this way?
