so as the title says.... the glass place tells me they screwed up and ordered 'foreign' glass as opposed to 'domestic' for the car, yet supposedly already have the right stuff in hand. smells fishy to me. is this really a thing? i'm in south Carolina btw and my car is just a regular old 75 2 door 6cyl coupe. they aren't charging me any more.

my suspicion is they were buying more time due to some undisclosed issue. (tech broke original ordered glass, they ordered mustang glass, whatever).

OR, its legit. experiences please? thanks!

There was a ford maverick SUV that was made in Europe. They most likely ordered that glass by mistake.

ok. heres my dilema. took them 5 days to get the glass originally. this time they had it in their hands in 4 hrs. would make sense if they ordered the suv one and it took forever. kinda stupid though. not feeling good about the competency of these people. man i hate cutting checks to shops like this.

Based on my experiences, just be glad you found any glass that fits.

... and also just be happy when it gets installed right without damaging your trim or paint , and even better yet, it doesn't leak when done. Maybe I have had some bad luck with new glass.

I would not be happy if I ever had to go through a single windshield replacement again. I stay back 50 feet from any vehicle.

71gold: What happened that you needed 5 windshields?

I think I paid $150 for the glass and another $100 to come to my house and install. I did not let them install the trim. I did that myself and it was a PIA but it was done correctly with no scratches.

Wow that's not bad at all. Did you get the glass through a local vender?

Yes, contact Pilkington. They should be able to get you in touch with a local dealer.

They also had 2dr door glass, but strangely only made one side when I last checked.

Just went out and looked, it was made in Finland.

every windshield I've had installed leaked to start with...:yup:
first one... truck threw up a rock .
2nd. one was a week later getting off the interstate a car passed and kicked up a rock...
the 3rd. one was the 2nd. one, I broke it putting on the trim...:smash:
4th is for the 3rd. one......it's broken now from a rock ...:slap:
I have 2 new ones on the shelf and a perfect used one I found later in a parts car (it goes in next).
Hagerty Ins. bought all of them but the used one.
Collin had to replace one in his Mav. so he just bought 2 from the Lady I get mine from.

pics are the rock crack now and the trim fubar...( I was adjusting the trim clip)

Had a windshield installed May of 14, by a company that does a lot of work/restoration on old cars. They do glass, vinyl roofs and upholstery; they did a friends Mavericks halo roof, that is where I got the info. about their work. I was impressed w/ the roof work, so, let them to my windshield. I gave them deposit on the glass, took it in when glass came, got it back later that day. I like the tint in the new glass a lot better than the OE. Logo on the glass "FY-DW797; Dot 459; AS1 -M858.
I did not want to deal w/ the trim as I had not ever done this and had no interest in screwing it up, seeing as I viewed this as a one time event. If not, they will do any other glass I need.
I am satisfied w/ the work at a cost of $290.00 w/ 15.00 of that to tax man. No leaks, no damaged trim, no frustration --- What's not to like about that?

as a follow up, yup, they ordered the suv glass, they finally fessed up. they still did a crap job overall by not installing the trim or even the mirror as they promised and were full of excuses, including taking almost 2 days to do it (and I brought them the car with the glass out and it all prepped!)
I wrote a full scathing review for them as they lied to me, made excuses, and even forgot to put the rearview mirror back on. this si why I like to do things myself.

on the upside the glass IS nice and im pretty sure it will not leak. I will be testing it tonight.... live and learn.
