Thought I should join the forum because there will be plenty of questions to be asked. My daughter Janet got her 72 Maverick down here to Kentucky and the project has started. The engine and trans are out and the front end has been taken off. Ran into a little more cancer and bondo then we expected but we bought the car in the middle of a rainstorm without much time to doodle around. Looking at a mild cam, 2 barrel carb set up, ignition and headers when we rebuild the 200 six. From what I understand with a rebuild on the 3 speed manual trans and stock rear end and keeping the 4 bolt axles it should handle it. Suggestions are more than welcome, that's why we are here.

JMO...200 six is a pretty weak motor for a 2 barrel carb set up...:yup:

Yes, 4 bolt drums all the way around. We wanted to keep the original drive line for the time being. Just a little more zip, no drag racing. Although I've seen some pretty hairy 200 ci's on iTunes.

I meant YouTube. It will be a while before the engine goes back in for sure. What are your suggestions for carburetion. Will a 250 head with the larger valves bolt on and is that workable?

Welcome to the forum. In July there will be what is called the Gathering in Somerset Kentucky and the week after will be what is caller the Round Up and it will be in Dayton Ohio there will be even more cars at this event (50 +) they are events that several Maverick and Comet owners from around the country get together and have a good time it is a great time to gather ideas and admire others cars and make new friends and is very family oriented. No need to have a car just share the love of them

Their are many Maverick and Comet owners in Kentucky and may be help to you in your quest. You may want to consider as time and money allows changing to disc brakes for safety sake. At any rate have fun with your project and feel free to ask any questions all though most answers can be found by searching this site

Thanks for the invite Mike. My name is Woody and hopefully my daughter Janet can be here from Denver in July. I would imagine the exact dates and location for the Somerset shindig will be posted when it gets closer. Actually General Burnside State Park is one of our favorite campsites.

A car like that needs a V-8 swap. If you just want to get the car running, keep the 200 completely stock. It's a complete waste of money trying to soup up a 200 I-6.

:Welcome:From Central Iowa If you really want to stay with a six cyl. I would go with a 250. V8 would be better.
