in the process of removing my interior on my 74 Maverick I discovered it has heated seats the previous owner had disconnected them and stuffed the wiring in the kick panels, I am going to hook them back up when I put it all back together I need to know how they were switched on and off did they have a separate switch? There is an extra wire I can't figure out what it was used for, the only thing I can think of they may go to are the seat belts? can anyone help me .

What you found was the strip that triggers the fasten seat belt light. There was an interlock under the dash that would not allow you to start the car until the belts were fastened. Tremendous PITA if you set a full bag of groceries on the passenger seat. It would detect the weight and think there was a passenger in the car. You will find the module for this attached to the lower dash near the glovebox if it is still there. Most owners of 73-74 cars ripped these things out almost immediately. This was a law that had a short shelf life.

Mavericks and comets did not come with heated seats. This is a seat belt reminder.
