Thats what I've been thinking lately and with the research I've done it seems as tho the radiator simply doesn't transfer enough heat and doesn't flow enough to handle this engine at sustained RPMs
We will see what the champion combo does for it and go from there

You run puller & pusher for AC IIRC? When I converted to electric I didn't have shroud and the setup was greatly improved w/ shroud. My fan had to be placed to pass side of water pump pulley. I put a piece of paper on outside of rad. where the backside was open - paper didn't stick. Built a shroud -- paper stuck like glue was applied. I am thinking about doing the pusher on front side w/small fan; in vry hot temps 95+the car will run to 230 waiting for long idle periods w/ AC running -- no AC running -- no problem.
I don't worry to much about 230 w/ iron heads.
BTW: Power Tour rumored coming to Illinois, Iowa & Indiana; perhaps we may get a chance to eyeball if conditions permit.

Few days ago the champion radiator arrived.
    Beautiful piece from them boys
I bought new upper and lower radiator gates hoses as well
The only issue I had was fitment between the water pump and the radiator mounting holes.
I had to heat up the mounting holes that seem to be about 1/4" offset BACK towards the engine bay.
A little heat and some pliers allowed me to flatten out the offset.
She bolted right up with next to Zero clearance between the fan and the water pump.
It sits about 1/4" below the bolts on the water pump
The best Part is Im here to report a 25 DEGREE drop in water temp just from this switch.
I was running 210 to 215 or so normally...now its 180 to 190. Depending on if the fan is off or on.
I drove it 30miles home yesterday and the fan was off the entire time.
I get an instant 10 to 20 degree drop with the fan on.
One happy customer here. Thank you boys on this forum for the recommendation and Champion for an awesome radiator.

    Hi again Little John:
Looks like a clean installation ! If you ever decide to run AC I think there is enough room to squeeze a SPAL electric fan in front of the radiator. We put a few in and there are several procedures to make it ' FIT " like you
want it to. I have my cars set up to activate the fan in FRONT of the radiator when the AC is turned on , or the
sensors activate if it nears 200 . Nice Window . Fan doesn't make much noise either . ( Some WILL .. depends on
    the size I think ) .
    Anyway .. Nice job John..

    Hi Everett:
I hope you're correct about the upcoming Hot Rod POWER TOUR route .. I have relatives in Indiana, Illinois , AND Michigan . Incidentally , I don't know if I mentioned it but my pusher fan in FRONT of the radiator is wired
to activate when it gets to 200 , OR when the AC is on. Works out great. How's it coming with your Comet ?

Looking at joining at Champaign to Indy, at least that is the plan. I will see how things go; can't leave wife to long as she is semi-handicapped following two strokes 2010-11. This would be my first time making the Tour. Very much hoping to meet y0u.

    Hi again Everett:
Sorry to hear about your wife's illness . I hope she is doing well. Alex and I are driving to KANSAS to Start the tour and plan to follow to the End as LONGHAULERS .. We've done this several times before and it was ALWAYS a great experience .. Beautiful Cars & Trucks .. Really Neat People .. Great Stops with adequate parking facilities .. Alex is driving the 70 Maverick we've just completed ( Only 145 miles on the speedo presently) so we're breaking it in for the longer Drive.. I'm driving my 74 Comet which already has 8000 or so miles on it . ( 4415 put on it during the 2015 HRPT) .. I'm hoping to meet up with Will from Oklahoma on this run also ..Alex and I met Will on the 2015 run ..He also made the run last year . I couldn't join the tour since I was still not 100 % at that time . Feeling Much Better now .. Hoping for stops without a lot of WALKING to the vendors areas .. Ha .. Just curious as to How Many OTHERS out there are planning to make any part of the Tour ?? Anyway .. I'll be in touch before and during the run . Maybe you could email me and we could exchange phone numbers ? cameocarclub@yahoo.com .
