No, the internals of the C4 trans on the 170 and 200 six cylinders are not as strong as the ones that were used with the 250 six cylinder and the 302's.

Plus the bell housing, torque converter and flexplate are different(smaller), neither begin fit a 250 or 302...

Welcome to the site from northeast Ohio!!! :tiphat:

Do you or your uncle know the history on the 351W he intends to sell you for $100?

I have had both the 351W and currently a 302 in my Comet. I suggest you go with a roller cam 302 converted to carburetion and V8 c4 transmission. If you are building on a budget stay away from performance items beyond headers, high rise intake manifold and carburetor upgrades. Additional items i.e. heads and camshaft can be installed at a later date.

Be ware that when you install a 351W in our cars you cannot pull the heads without pulling the engine unless you have heavily modified shock towers. Not so with the 302.

It's sitting in a 70s comet that was wrecked in the ass and it still cranks right up and it's only got 107,000 miles in it. And I've heard you can change the bell housing on the c4s to bolt up to a v8

Type roller cam engines in the search section to get more info. My two bits would say a front disk brake conversion kit for about $1000. Redo the front suspension at that time with new Moog brand parts for $500 (guessing; someone help me out), a rebuilt C4 with a high stall converter, both from Summit Racing, for $2700. The rest is to freshen up the roller cam engine and if you had anything left, a set of professionally installed 3.55 ratio gears for about $1200.

Get the slightly modified roller 302 and c4 installed, then based on the amount of money you have left we can make suggestions from that point. Maverick Dude's suggestion of a 3:55 gear, safe brake and suspension systems is a good plan.

:Welcome:Welcome to the forum and I also would do a 302 instead of the 351w motor.
