Hello everyone! My name is Aubrey. Just got my first field find; got her for $700.00. 1975 Ford Maverick. I am loving it so far but I have a long way to go before road ready. I am hoping to find ideas and help find parts as I go along. Thanks for having me. I am from TX but currently living in OKC.
Welcome to the forum, from Northeastern Illinois. You are in the right place to garner parts and knowledge base is the best you will find -- ANYWHERE! Gud Luck w/ the project. Several folks here, have parts and in the resource section, more on vendors of parts. If you can post more pic's of interior, engine bay and undercarriage, would be nice.
He said it was running about 4 months ago but alternator and battery went out. I think it was more than that. Most of the vacuums lines were not connected and some wiring that was not even connected. Crosses Fingers
Aye Caramba! ¡Hablé demasiado pronto! (I spoke too soon!) Don't worry. A lot of us spent a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOng time, before we got ours back in shape. I probably spent just as much time cleaning it up, as replacing & repairing.
Looks like front floor pans and trunk pan will need replacements. Lots of rust engine bay, but, appears to mostly surface rust. Pour a gallon of water in the cowl and look for water in/on floor; If so, that may well need repair. Check out some threads on cowl repair. Looks like your in for quite-a-bit of work....
all the window seals need replacing. they are all hard and cracked and have shrunk. Thanks for the advice
What are the plans for the car? Street/Cruiser, strip etc.? What's your experience in rust repair? Don't mean to be negative, but looks like you have lot's of work inside & out, along w/ lot's of parts.
Cruiser. Keeping it close to original as possible. Not sure how much difference it is but I have been doing composite and sheet metal fabrication for 20 yrs on helicopters and airplanes! I am in no rush whatsoever. I will have to get someone to weld. I am no good at welding. I am looking at a 5 to 6 yr build. I wanting my daughter to help as much as possible (she is 5 but loves her Daddy). Got her first set of stubby wrenches last week.
... first thing I would do is check the underside of the car. ...torque boxes, frame rails, spring shackle mounts, shock mounts etc. etc. engine bay looks as tho a hose/radiator busted. good luck, this is the worse shape car I have ever seen that someone was going to rebuild...
You might want to rethink this project. Right now you do not have a lot of money invested in this car. Just by looking at the pictures, it will take mega bucks and mega hours to just get this car in decent looking condition. That does not count the hidden problems noted by mojo and 71gold that may exist . I see there are not a lot of Mavericks or Comets on Craig's list in your area, however the following link has an example of a car that I believe may be a far better investment. I'm confident you could get this car for less than the asking price. I would not pay the seller's asking price. Even if you paid full asking price for the car, by the time all is said and done you will have far less money invested than what will be required for your current project vehicle. Just my opinion. http://tulsa.craigslist.org/cto/5954863333.html
