These are my two Marti Reports. Does anyone know about Belted Wide Oval Tires on our cars? Were there two types of white wall tires available?
Kewl... All I have on tires is this... Appears 6.45, B78 & D70 sizes were all available in whitewalls...
Looking at your detailed breakdown you can tell that there were just 3,009 of all the '72 Comet 2 doors (regular and GT's) made with the 302 V8 and 3 speed manual trans. That means that a '72 Comet GT with a 302 and 3 speed trans is a pretty rare combo!
That is true. I wonder how many of the 29,092 4 doors came with a 302 and then add the 3 speed? Does any member of the site have or know of a four door with 302 and 3 speed option?
When I bought my 1971 Comet GT new, it came with D70-14 tires. They were Goodyear Custom Wide Treads with raised white letters and were belted. I believe Wide Ovals refers to a Firestone tire. I never saw a GT back then with whitewalls. Lee "THE MAV" Richart
Well they built them, at least in '72... Here a pict of a '72 GT with it's original whitewall wide ovals(used only for show, tread is poor at best)... These are called out on the Marti report...
That is Elford Fox's '72 Comet GT. He is the original owner. It is a 302 with a 3 speed manual and it still has it's original paint. He comes to our MCCI VA Mini Meet every year. Nice fellow!
