So far today I got the radiator all ready to go and in, filled it with distilled water/water wetter...... Mounted the breather tanks and made the lines for them..... Put the charge tube back on and made the line for the blow off valve..... Removed the alternator, pressure fed the oil system, then reinstalled the alt and adjusted it..... I also put 5 quarts of trans fluid in it..... After I got done with all that, I made a run over to the gas station and picked up 15 gallons of non-etheanol to fire it up on..... I will be going back this evening to put some gas in it, load the tune I have for it and see if it will run????? Here's the current pic's.....
It did run last night although barely, it was extremely lean and struggling to run..... After I got home I was looking over the fuel aspect of the tune and found that when I change the map sensor in the base tune, it rescaled the base fuel map causing it to try and run on next to no base fuel..... I made some corrections, we shall see in a little while here if it helps or not.....
What Brand and type of fuel lines are those please? I am looking for Teflon lined PTFE and they are rather hard to find.
Hi Frank: Ever closer to getting this car on the ' street ' and soaking up the pleasure a car like this brings when on the road. Kudos ! Cometized (Chip)
Thanks..... All fittings and hoses are Red Horse..... The hoses are nylon braided outer/stainless braided inside, all the fuel lines are E85 resistant..... Thanks Chip, if I can get it to run properly..... Well, it kind of runs..... I put more fuel to it and that helped a little but it was still real flat, sounded like extremely late timing..... I thought maybe I screwed something up in the tune so I tried a base LS1 file, it was the same..... So next I decided to pull the plugs, and Houston we have a problem..... Cylinders 6 & 8 are doing nothing, not sure if it's fuel or spark yet..... I did check everything but the signal wires and all looks good so far..... So for now I have it narrowed down to bad plugs, coils, injectors, wiring or ecu(or any possible combination of mentioned items)..... This should be an easy fix.....
Checked grounds, injector signal/function, coil signal/function and it didn't really help..... Methodically went over everything again, and the problem turned out to be defective/shitty terminals for the coil plugs..... They had very poor contact area, a couple of the ones on cyl 6 & 8 were extremely loose..... I changed to some other ones I have that seemed to fit much better, through a new set of plugs in it and it fired up and idled good..... Is that some BS or what.....
It seems to be running pretty good now, just needs a couple minor adjustments and some learn time driving..... First I need to remove the trans to address a minor leak problem, I put studs in to retain the pump and there is fluid seeping out the threads between the studs and nuts(odd, but needs to be addressed)..... After that I need to repair/assemble the grill, paint the stone guard, paint the hood, assemble the front end stuff, bolt the seats and seat belts in..... It's getting there but still so far away.....
Hi Frank : Sounds like you're getting really close to putting your Comet out on the street ! Congratulations on your build .. Its a fine car and certainly one that is ' set apart ' from the norm . Looking forward to seeing it in person . Cometized (Chip)
