Or by being a 70, the body area in the rear would not accept staggered shocks? Just wondering if staggered shocks are an advantage to be looked at.

I don't know if they can be installed without modification. As far as an advantage, the reason the factory started staggering them was to reduce wheel-hop. It must work, because I have never had a wheel-hop problem with my Maverick. I had a Ford pickup that would wheel-hop all the time under hard acceleration. Aside from that, there is no handling or ride advantage.

Assuming the upper mount has same bolt spacing, I'd think replacing it and the lower mount would be all that's necessary...

To locate shock to opposite side of axle, on my Cobra Jet they cut the chassis, flipped the removed section and welded it back in place... Was performed on assembly line(probably in the early stage of floor pan build), only 4-speed 428 cars got the staggered shocks...

If there is a wheel-hop problem, I think I'd rather install some Caltracs before modifying for staggered shocks.

    Hi Larry:
Just put on a set of traction bars on my 70 and there is NO wheel hop . I'm running an 8" inch 3.25. Posi that I had built here in Florida . Installing a rear sway bar next.

no , no wheel hop here, I try and take care of my stuff, and not abuse it, BUT, just driving around and the car hits a bump, the rear of the car wants to jump to the side, I thought maybe the staggered shocks(not having them) was the problem, but I think, it just might be because its a maverick, LOL!!!

Well, how stiff are your springs? I know that when I had the factory stock suspension, my Maverick rode like a Cadillac compared to how it rides now with stiffer suspension.

Took the rear shocks off and its pretty easy to push the rear down and it bounces. like it would without the shocks, so I got a used set of shocks from Pete and installed them, it rides much better now but still isnt what I want. I didnt think the springs were that stiff.

I put a 4 leaf set up under my car because I had one thinking it couldnt hurt the ride but I was mistaken when I hit a bump it is like riding in a tank as it is so stiff, some of this may be due to the fact that I have caltracs and qa1 9 way adjustable shocks in the rear so I am in the process of going back to 3 leaf and putting stock shocks back on it and will unhook the caltracs and see if I can get the softer ride back. Was not so bad for strip action but those days are over

Maybe you will just have to experiment with different shocks. Not that it will effect your ride but do you have lowering blocks under the rear end to get the ride height you have ?
