You must be really enjoying the driving time with your Comet .. It's a real ' head-turner' and there is SO MUCH that is NOT apparent about that car that it must be a real grin when you raise the hood at a car show and reveal just SOME of the workmanship that went INTO the car. KUDOS FRANK !!

Wut the?.. no driving impressions, Frank? :sarcasticclap: :p

Hopefully this motor was already run in on the dyno or you purposely loaded it up to seat the rings early on. Baby it too much without a load and ring seal might never be ideal.

Or maybe you had it honed/plateau honed with finer bore finish to seat the rings faster? Still need to load it up to help plant the rings though. Just doesn't take nearly as long.

Yes, it was nice getting to drive it around for a couple weeks and Thanks.....

It drove great..... I wasn't necessarily driving it easy, but boost was intentionally limited to only about 3.5 lbs..... It was more about letting the fuel injection learn, as well as letting my learn some things about the injection system.....

Well, I haven't had a chance to give any updates for a while..... I did get to drive it for a couple weeks and am pretty happy with the way it ran for the most part..... I was however getting a little glitch with the trans the second week, once it a while at low speeds(like leaving leaving the driveway at the condo or at work) something was dragging or binding..... After some inspection I found it to be an electrical glitch that was sometimes applying the transbrake, it's a relatively easy fix..... The other problem is my converter was entirely too tight..... I got another converter so since I was pulling the trans anyways I figured I better inspect it and sure enough the reverse clutches were starting to surface burn.....

So the trans has been apart since last weekend so I could get some reverse clutches for it..... I also had a slight gear noise in the rearend I didn't like so I tore out the center setion for some inspection.....Nothing appeared wrong, but the backlash was a little tight, for now I think I am going to put a 3.50 gear in it I have laying around for a while..... I know it's probably too much gear in the long run but I plan on just foot braking it for a while and should provide a little better off the line response..... I did get the center section apart, cleaned up and ready to put back together.....

So as of last weekend this is what the car looked like.....

Hopefully I will be able to get it back together this weekend and this converter works out a little better.....

Good luck, sometimes takes awhile to work out the glitches...

Makes me feel rather inadequate... I've been procrastinating about pulling the tail housing on Top Loader in the CJ to change the drive gear so speedo will be correct... That's only been since Y2K... :slap:

    Hi Frank:
I just changed out a 3.55 to a 3.80 in the Maverick and it seems comfortable . Its difficult to find an 8"inch third member without building one yourself. I had the 3.80 built by an outfit in IOWA and we just " broke it in " .. Drive 15 minutes..Park and let cool for 45 mins to an hour . Did that five sequences as instructed and am now driving it for greater distances. I have a 3.55 tru-track posi type unit placed in a plastic bag and into a 5 gallon pail for storage purposes. I don't anticipate any ' change ' in the cars since my Daughters car is a built C4 and the Comet is a ' stick ' also Looking forward to seeing your Comet in the real .. so to speak. Great workmanship.

Went down for a while this morning..... Got the gear set up, cleaned up the face of the housing and put the chunk in the housing..... That's about all I could take this morning, I am getting a little old to be wrestling a 9" chuck into a hos=using on my back anymore.....

I might try to get back to the shop later today so I can get a little more done.....

It lives again..... Got the trans together and put in this morning..... The converter seems to be working good..... I think I am going to put the 83lb injectors back in, I think it will help the idle quality..... The 120's seem to be way too much at idle for a relatively small mild motor, It doesn't want to idle very good below 800..... I took a look at a couple things today and the injectors are only at .5% duty cycle when idling..... I have the 83' so I might as well try them, I think the low rpm and idle quality will improve.....

There is also something in one of the rear tires again..... This is like the 3rd time for these BFG's, they are like metal magnets.....

Put the 83lb injectors back in, idle and low end response has improved a good bit..... I need to get the new rear wheels/tires mounted tomorrow and it should be ready to drive again.....

I got the new rear wheels/tires mounted today and took them over to a buddies shop and balanced them..... Man the Mickey's are quite a bit bigger then the BFG's were, they are about 5/16" taller and 1/4'" wider and roll out is 1" more..... They barely fit in the fenderwell..... I brought it home so I could drive it some this week and let the efi learn with the changes I made.....

Here's the new one mounted and a couple of them on the car.....
